OMG 2 Review: A satirical comedy-drama with plenty of entertaining and thought-provoking moments despite bold topic
OMG 2 Movie Rating: 3.5 Stars
Just watched OMG 2 movie in Cinemas. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam
Director: Amit Rai
Release Date: 11th August 2023 in Cinemas
Story: It is the second in the Oh My God film franchise. Set in Ujjain, sequel revolves around Kanti Sharan Mudgal (Pankaj Tripathi) who is a simple man, loving father and a caring husband. He is also a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva and running a pooja store near Mahakal Temple.
One day his son Vivek (Aarush Varma) thrown out of school after a video showing him masturbating in the school toilet goes viral. It also changes in perception around his entire family in the society. Upon confrontation, Kanti realizes that his son has been a victim of misinformation and misguidance. Grief-struck and unable to handle the crisis, Kanti decides to leave the town with his family.
At that moment, his prayers are answered through a divine intervention from the messenger of Lord Shiva (Akshay Kumar). He motivates him to file a case against the school and several other mis-informants in the society. He prays for reinstatement of his son in the same school and for apology and token damages by the wrong doers.
While he argues his case himself, the case of the school and other defendants is argued by Kamini (Yami Gautam Dhar). Guiding him in his quest for justice is a reincarnation of Lord Shiva. What happens finally? Does the judge Purushottam Nagar (Pavan Raj Malhotra) pass an order in favor of Kantilal or not?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on release day in cinemas as loved the trailer and liked 1st movie of this franchise.
Life is bliss until one day Kanti Sharan Mudgal’s son Vivek is blamed for immoral conduct and expelled from school. Overwhelmed, Kanti plans to leave town until a divine intervention leads him to seek justice by taking those responsible to court.
OMG 2 story is splendid and the need of the hour. Screenplay in the 1st half is gripping but 2nd half could have been crisper. Film has prepared with plenty of entertaining and thought-provoking moments. Also, the way importance of sex education and the divine element is seen to be believed. Dialogues are sharp and clap worthy. The film obviously goes on another level when the courtroom drama begins. Several scenes stand out here like Indumati and Damyanti being interrogated by Kamini and the scene of the sex worker. A lot of issues are raised without getting preachy. It is making an attempt to put forward a topic which everyone within the industry would shy away from. The story telling is packaged with ample humor and dramatic moments in the courtroom, especially the second half. All the portions featuring Akshay Kumar are refreshing and bring a smile. A well-intentioned film that has its heart at the right place. The film educates without getting too preachy. The finale is quite impactful.
On the flipside, the director doesn’t sum up the film properly. Kanti doesn’t address an important point about how no action was taken by the school against the bully who shot Vivek’s video. Akshay Kumar sadly doesn’t have a lot of screen time. This is his recent best performance so should have more screen time. Songs don’t have a shelf life. There is a little dip in the initial second half. The courtroom debates could have been a little more exciting. Screenplay is good in parts, but it is not tight and consistent. Since it is a difficult drama, the writer sometimes loses track but comes back on track and this happens several times. Consequently, the drama does not remain engrossing throughout. It also becomes difficult for the audience to understand whether the two lawyers are fighting about the need to have sex education in schools or about reinstating Kantilal’s son in school. No doubt, both are interconnected but the arguments don’t appear convincing enough because while one lawyer talks about sex education in school, the other often talks about the reinstatement.
Overall movie is a bold, powerful, progressive, and sensitively handled film with powerful performances as its USP. It transcends the boundaries of conventional cinema, evolving into an engaging and thought-provoking experience. It seamlessly weaves entertainment into the critical discourse on sex education, addressing pertinent topics and societal taboos with a remarkable blend of sensitivity and depth. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
