Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas on release date as loved the action sequences and background music of Thaman S. After vanishing from Mumbai’s underworld for a decade, mob boss Ojas Gambheera resurfaces seeking vengeance against rival crime lords.
OG brims with raw action and high intensity that frequently unleash full-blown violence. The film wastes no time and dives straight into action, with the build-up to Pawan Kalyan’s electrifying introduction scenes leaving you hyped for what’s to come. In fact, the first thirty minutes of ‘OG’ is one elevation scene after another, and you don’t mind because these are executed just right. There’s the right dose of promising set-up, followed by intrigue, and when power star enters with composer Thaman’s chest-thumping score, it’s mass masala at its best. It offers plenty of fan moments. The title card itself is outstanding. The action blocks impress, and when Kalyan holds the katana and swings it, it is hard to sit silently. Pawan Kalyan is superb in the action sequences. The introduction fight, interval block, police station scene, and some action blocks in the second half are purely fan stuff. All are designed well to please fans, and movie succeed in delivering them. Thaman is in rampage mode and adds immense value to many scenes. DOP Ravi K. Chandran is another pillar of the film, with fantastic visuals that bring vibrancy to every frame. Director Sujeeth’s vision of presenting his favorite actor exactly as fans want is successfully achieved. However, more focus on a compelling story could enhance the overall impact.
While it is satisfying to see Pawan Kalyan as fans desire, nothing stands above the story. A strong narrative is more important than style and scale, and OG misses that. The storyline is not only weak but also predictable. Sujeeth could elevate it through tighter execution but falls short. The confrontations between Pawan Kalyan and Emraan Hashmi could have been designed with more intensity. The first half sets up a gripping gangster saga, but the second half loses steam. Unnecessary scenes, a stretched runtime, and underdeveloped character arcs dilute the impact. The climax works but is not particularly exciting. Scenes between Kalyan and Priyanka disappoints and does not create any emotion due to no background about their love story. There are inconsistencies in the film’s tone, visual effects, and dubbing as well. The lack of solid drama in the second half makes the duration feel longer. It has all the elements of a gangster drama and an invincible hero at the helm. Yet, when the emotions don’t land, the film’s impact remains half-baked. Take, for example, the stretch where OG’s daughter gets kidnapped. It’s an archaic trope. So old that you can guess what’s going to happen even before the actors open their mouths to utter any dialogue.
It is more a fan service celebration than a layered gangster epic. Pawan Kalyan’s towering screen presence, Emraan Hashmi’s strong debut, and Thaman’s music make it worth a watch for fans of the genre. But for those seeking tight storytelling and nuanced drama, the film may feel like style over substance. Overall, movie a mass entertainer and is stylishly shot gangster drama that presents Pawan Kalyan in a vintage avatar. Come for the action and aura, stay for the spectacle but lower expectations on story depth. My view on this movie Highly Recommended for Pawan Kalyan fans and action lovers.
