Story: Set in 2017 in Jaipur, film starts off with a special thanks to Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni). A cricket match that is being played between Shukla Stars and Achievers Club. On strike is none other than Mahendra Agarwal aka Mahi (Rajkummar Rao) who in order to impress the selectors intentionally gets the other batsman out as he did not listen to him. But, as luck would have it despite being at the striker’s end, Mahi gets caught and is sent back thus, losing the match as well as an opportunity to impress the selectors.

Few years later, Mahendra meets Dr Mahima (Janhvi Kapoor) for an arranged marriage who, despite all the flaws says yes to the marriage as she finds a selflessly honest human being in him.
While on one hand, Mahi starts feeling out-spaced in the sports shop, on the other hand, Dr. Mahi is sick and tired of following the instructions of her senior doctor. One fine day, Mahi happens to witness the near-perfect batting skills of his wife Dr. Mahi. Seeing this, he offers to coach her and make her a top-class cricketer, something that both their parents disapprove of. Will both the Mahis be successful and able to convince their strict parents, what happens to Dr. Mahi and her medical career, do the love life of the Mahis be able to sustain the storm is what forms the rest of the film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on its release date as liked the concept and loved director last movie.
Mahendra Agarwal dreams of joining the Indian cricket team but fails. His father pushes him to run the family business instead. Later, his parents arrange his marriage to Mahima who is a doctor. Mahendra is surprised to learn that Mahima loves cricket too. He hopes to achieve his dream with her support. Will Mahima support his wish and leave her job? How will their parents react? What will ultimately happen?
Mr and Mrs Mahi story has the potential. We have seen films about failed individuals coaching aspiring players to success. But here, the coach is the husband and that gives a novel touch. The first half is quite rich in emotions and humor. But the writing has some loose ends in places. What makes this film stand out is that, amongst the plethora of films which have been made on cricket, it’s the simplicity and no-nonsense approach towards the film’s script and narrative that makes it stand apart from the rest. Despite the conflict and hurdles, love wins. The relationship of parent-child remains one of the central highlights and the subplot flows smoothly. Without painting any character pure white, it sheds light on the jealousy that comes along with fame. The switch between the pre-interval and post-interval is dramatically delicious. The message about the need to be selfless and, therefore, not expect anything in return for one’s good actions is well-conveyed. For that reason, the scene between Mahendra and his mother, especially the last part of it, touches the heart. Mahendra’s rock-solid support to Mahima is also well conveyed post-interval. Movie also celebrates the unsung heroes the coaches, the spouses who stand silently behind those who achieve glory. Ultimately, the film beautifully depicts the idea that true victory lies in finding fulfillment within yourself, not in the eyes of others. This tale with a heart is for everyone, and you will come out learning valuable lessons. Performances from star cast is good but I feel execution could have been better.
On the flipside, it was shocking though about the screenplay is that it has limited cricket moments. While Mahima is seen hitting the balls into the stands to score sixes and fours, we don’t see her participate in the fielding or any other aspect of the game. The lack of such moments impacted the high that a sports film usually gives. This also resulted in the film becoming linear. Post-interval, the film takes a turn as Mahima’s cricketing career commences. However, from here on, the film gets predictable as one can guess what will happen next. The first half takes too long to establish. The conflict is the most interesting part of any story and that comes fairly late and lasts too less. The songs by multiple composers are passable. There is not a single song that stays with you for long.
Overall, it is not a bad film, but it isn’t a great film either. Consider it was marketed as a sports-themed film, the film needed a few high moments of a sports drama to truly allow viewers to resonate with the characters and their struggles. It does have great performers and some beautiful scenes of Rao with his on-screen parents and wife talking of inner happiness and peace, but the overall screenplay isn’t able to tap into the plot’s true potential leaving a very mild impact My view on this movie Time Pass
