Mastercard ODI Series 2023: Australia become only team to defeat India in their home twice since 2016. They won the 3rd and final game by 21 runs and won the series by 2-1 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Now I will share the details of this game in my own way.

3rd ODI (India Vs Australia)
Game Date: 19th March 2023
Details:
Australian captain Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first in the 3rd and final ODI game against Team India at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. No changes in Indian Team for this game while Australian Team made Two changes.

Australia bowled out for 269 runs in 49 after batting first. Aussies lower order take them to 269 on a track that looks two-paced. Marsh and Head got their team off to another brisk start as they took the attack to the Indian new ball bowlers and forged a fifty partnership. Rohit brought in Hardik Pandya and the all-rounder wasted little time to make a mark. He removed Head with a short ball in his 1st over, had Smith nick off for a duck in his 2nd and then nipped out the dangerous Marsh in the following over. Australia slipped from 68/0 to 85/3. Warner, batting at four, along with Labuschagne looked to repair the innings but both the batters threw away their starts as they perished to Kuldeep trying to take the aerial route. Carey and Stoinis managed to stitch a half-ton stand and just when they looked to be threatening, the latter fell playing a high-risk shot. Kuldeep bowled a beauty to castle Carey and Australia were in a spot of bother at 203/7. It was a excellent recovery in the end from the Australian lower order. While Hardik and Kuldeep picked three wickets apiece, Jadeja did his stuff quietly as he bowled an economical spell and kept one end tight. India bowled 28 overs of spin and still took ages to bowl their quota of overs. Mitchell Marsh scored 47 runs of 47 balls and Alex Carey scored 38 runs of 46 balls. For Team India, Kuldeep Yadav & Hardik Pandya pick 3 wickets each.

Team India unable to chase down the target and bowled out for 248 runs in 49.1 overs and lost the game by 21 runs. Australia are cock-a-hoop! With this win, they become the top ranked ODI side. Smith had a quiet tour with the bat but he has led the Aussies really well. The Aussies have come back from behind to win this 3-match series. Their in-form bowler Starc had a bad day at the office, but the other bowlers stepped up and defended the total. Smith needed the services of just five bowlers. The Indian innings progressed very similar to Australia’s except for the lower order contribution. Most of the frontline batters from both teams got starts but none of them managed to kick on as the bowlers kept applying the brakes with wickets at regular intervals. Chasing 270, India got off to a brisk start. After losing both their openers in quick succession, Virat Kohli got his eye in and looked to steady the ship along with KL Rahul. Zampa broke the half-century partnership as the latter holed out to long-on. Axar Patel‘s promotion didn’t work and Hardik came out all guns blazing. With a well-set Virat at the crease, India would have fancied their chance to chase down the target. But Agar turned the match on its head. In his final over, he induced Kohli into a false shot and removed SKY off the very next ball. The game was still in the balance with Hardik and Jadeja at the crease. That’s when the other spinner Zampa came to the party. He removed both the all-rounders to extinguish any Indian hopes. Virat Kohli scored 54 of 72 balls and Hardik Pandya scored 40 runs of 40 balls. For Australia, Adam Zampa pick 4 wickets for 45 runs in his 10 overs quota.
