Maharani Season 2 Web Series Rating: 3.5 Stars

Just watched Maharani Season 2 web series on Sony LIV. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.

Cast: Huma Qureshi, Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti, Vineet Kumar, Atul Tiwari, Pramod Pathak, Neha Chauhan, Mohammad Aashiq Hussain, Sushil Pandey, Anuja Sathe, Robin Das, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Kumar Saurabh
Director: Ravindra Gautam
Release Date: 25th May 2022 (On Sony LIV)
Duration: 10 Episodes/ 40 Minutes

Story: In the first season, series focused on politically inexperienced Rani Bharti who took over the mantle of chief minister after her husband Bheema Bharti suffered a stroke. Rani is ready to rule this season and bring fair and transparent administration to the people of her state. Will one woman against all odds be able to bring about any change in this largely male-dominated political world, or will she be dismissed by everyone else?

The story of season 2 continues from where the first ended. Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi) is still the chief minister of Bihar and wants to do the right thing for her people. But her husband and ex-CM Bheema Bharti (Sohum Shah) does not make it easy for her despite being behind bars. He’s still calling the shots, ruling party members and Bihar, so to say. Eventually, the husband-wife duo end up at loggerheads as their ideologies and strategies to run the state are polar opposites.

Taking advantage of this situation is their rival Navin Kumar (Amit Sial). Navin has been wanting to become the CM for 17 years and this time but it seems luck is in his favour. He also hires a political PR agency headed by Kalpana (Neha Chauhan) and uses religion as his agenda and tries to stay in the news as much as possible.

When Bheema is finally released from jail, the two try to be one up each other in order to secure vote banks. Rani, meanwhile focuses on fighting corruption and crime in Bihar but is always let down by her party people who are loyal to Bheema Bharti. Bheema even asks his wife to resign and hand over power to him, but Rani decides to stay in the game. As the show progresses, we see Bheema Bharti, Navin Kumar and Rani Bharti fighting each other to become the next CM. What happen next is all about this series.

Positives
1. Excellent performances
2. Story
3. Direction
4. Cinematography
5. Dialogues
6. Climax

Negatives
1. Too many Sub-plots
2. Length
3. Slow & Boring at few places

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer planned to watch this series on premiere day because loved the first season and this one also looks very raw and engaging.

As Bheema Bharti runs a proxy government from prison, CM Rani Bharti is accused of misgovernance while Bihar fights anti-incumbency, jungle raj, and corruption. Lawlessness has gripped the state of Bihar and the opposition holds Rani responsible for the state’s ‘jungle raj’. Facing a constant turmoil of opposition from her own party and dealing with a husband and political enemies who are obstinately plotting to overthrow her government, she is forced to make some moves that will disrupt the whole political scenario. With elections right around the corner, will Rani’s acumen turn victorious, given her own husband is her greatest enemy?

Maharani Season 2 begins on an intriguing note with the introduction of a new character and a core mystery. However, things are back to normal and resume from where it was left as soon as the flashback begins. As usual, what holds the attention is the drama, powerful performances and dialogues. All the primary characters have good writing, irrespective of the length or the graph they go through. The last of these is an issue, though. Sometimes the jump from one position to another feels abrupt. It is not just within the series but an effect of many hinterland stories dealing with the same set of situations.

There are many subplots, and while they begin on an intriguing note, the steam is lost after a point. It happens with threads. The most significant one involves Dulari Yadav. His track progress is a fine example of how the series fails to do justice to the material due to multiple threads. It’s a slow-burning thriller but sadly things only get worse as the series moves at its own pace, putting one’s patience to the test. After all of that, the climax is unpredictable and well worth the wait and it also teases the next season.

Like previous season, performances are top notch from all the lead characters and supporting cast. Story, direction and screenplay in maximum episodes are bang on. Without a doubt, sequel is more powerful and staggering. But it’s the cast’s compelling performances that keep you enthralled in this sequel. Shorter episodes would have made it more binge-worthy, but if you have seen the previous season, you’ll definitely be interested in this power-hungry drama again. My view on this web-series Highly Recommended
