Maharani Review: One of the best political drama I have ever seen
Maharani Web Series Rating: 4 Stars
Just watched Maharani web series on Sony LIV. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.
Cast: Huma Qureshi, Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti, Vineet Kumar, Atul Tiwari, Mohammed Ashique Hussain, Inaamulhaq, Harish Khanna and Kannan Arunachalam
Director: Karan Sharma
Release Date: 28th May 2021 (On Sony LIV)
Duration: 10 Episodes/ 45 Minutes
Story: Series is set in 90’s and reportedly based on three-time CM of Bihar Rabdi Devi and the phase when Lalu Prasad Yadav named her as the successor when the hell was about to break loose on him. Maharani also kick starts at a similar note.
In the opening scene a man from the lower caste is shot dead for refusing to serve his maaliks (masters). With such a strong caste-based system in place, people find hope in ruling CM Bheema Singh Bharti(Sohum Shah) who represents backward classes and is trying to eradicate the social injustices prevalent in the state. He has a strong personality, but when Beema is shot and critically injured, his hopes come crashing down. As the ruling party members try to secure their futures as the next CM, Bheema passes on his position, with all its weight ad challenges to his wife Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi). She takes a time to learn the ropes and understand the intricacies of her new job in this male-dominated government.
The lady is a novice in every sense of the term. She cannot read or write she had a few years of primary school education. She makes a complete hash of the oath-taking ceremony. Her Officer on Special Duty Kaveri Sreedharan (Kani Kusruti) stands by her like a rock as rustic woman gradually evolves into a politician with a mind of her own.
The process is neither smooth nor instant. Pressures mount on her from all directions. The assailants who tried to take her husband’s life have to be brought to book. The investigation spearheaded by the state DGP Siddharth Gautam (Kannan Arunachalam) hangs in the balance. The state’s law and order situation is precarious. At one of the spectrum is the upper-caste ideologue Rameshwar Mukhiya (Alok Chatterjee) and his hitman Kunwar Singh (Sushil Pandey) at the other end there is the Naxal leader Shankar Mahto (Harish Khanna) is equally ruthless in his ways.
As she gains in confidence Rani Bharti begins to run afoul of not only the Opposition, led by an ambitious Navin Kumar (Amit Sial), an old college mate and now staunch rival of Bheema Bharti is after her to become CM. As Rani Bharti settles into the hot seat, she stumbles upon a massive scam related to animal husbandry department purchases made from non-existent suppliers on the basis of fake allotment orders and bills. This mirrors the infamous fodder scam but is described as the seeds scam.
The CM instructs finance secretary Parvez Alam (Inaamulhaq), a Bengali-born officer, to get to the bottom of the truth. As Rani fights for survival in the cesspool of politics, Parvez Alam goes all out to expose the network of corruption that runs all the way up to the top echelons of the government. Who shot Bheem Bharti, Who is main culprit behind scam. Will Rani Bharti able to find them and maintain law in the state and stay as CM or not for that you need to watch this series.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer planned to watch this series because of it’s story and engaging trailer and it rarely happens that series is better from its trailer.
Bheema Bharti (Sohum Shah) is Bihar’s popular lower-caste chief minister. His wife Rani (Huma Qureshi) lives in her ancestral village with their three children, far away from the state capital Patna and completely ignorant of what Bheema does for a living. After he barely survives an assassination attempt, Bheema places Rani on the throne and partly to checkmate his rivals who include the Brahmin leader Navin (Amit Sial). Initially the initial object of ridicule for her glaring lack of knowledge and rustic manner, Rani emerges as a formidable challenger to her husband’s opponents and eventually Bheema.
This is one the best political drama I have ever seen. Either it’s story, performances, screenplay. direction everything is too the point and even series is 7-8 hours long still it will keep you engage through the series. Looking forward for the 2nd season. Thank you Sony LIV for another great show that will become as famous as “Scam 1992”. My view on this web-series Highly Recommended !!
