Kushi Review: Predictable yet entertaining love story despite the draggy bits
Kushi Movie Rating: 2.5 Stars

Just watched Kushi movie in Hindi on Netflix. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha, Sachin Khedekar, Saranya Ponvannan, Murali Sharma and Vennela Kishore
Director: Shiva Nirvana
Release Date: 1st September 2023 in Cinemas & 1st October 2023 on Netflix

Story: Movie revolves around Viplav (Vijay Deverakonda) is a BSNL employee who requests a posting to Kashmir because he has a Mani Ratnam fantasy to live out. He wants the snow-capped mountains, the beautiful locales, the AR Rahman music, heady romance, et al. Unfortunately, he gets a massive dose of reality once he gets there.

One day Aradhya (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) happens to cross paths with him one fine day, and our man here falls heads-over-heels for the pretty girl. She pretends to be a Pakistani Muslim to avoid Viplav. Eventually, Aaradhya falls for Viplav, and the former reveals to the latter that she is from a conservative Brahmin family. But little do Viplav and Aaradhya know that their fathers, Lenin Satyam (Sachin Khedekar) and Chadarangam Srinivasa Rao (Murali Sharma) are at loggerheads.

The couple believes their love can overcome their starkly different brought-ups, warring families and even something heartbreaking. They also marry against their parents’ wishes, and soon they encounter unexpected issues in their married life. But is just love enough to make a relationship work? Left on their own, do Viplav and Aradhya know how to get over their misunderstandings with nobody’s help? What happen next is all about this movie.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in Hindi on OTT as trailer looks good and entertaining in parts.

Viplav and Aradhya fall in love only to realize that them and their families are poles apart. Happy in love, will these two manage to make their relationship work?

The first half of Kushi is all about love, comedy, and falling for each other. The superb music score by Hesham Abdul Wahab, Vennela Kishore’s comedy, and beautiful visuals keep the audience engaged. The key conflict point is also brought out on a very sober note without going overboard. Shiva Nirvana picks up things in the second half with a very beautiful conflict between the couple. The scenes of distress and how the family drama unfolds are showcased quite well. Vijay and Samantha do a good job of ensuring you care about what happens to them and their flailing marriage. The fun is decent, and the emotions in the latter hour came out well. It’s not the most out-of-the-box love story when stripped down to its bones and is predictable to the boot. Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music is the second hero of Kushi. The songs are superb, and they are also shot captivatingly by cinematographer Murali. The rich visuals enhance the viewing experience.

On the flipside, Kushi has a very predictable narration, but the conflict is strong. A stronger screenplay would have made matters even better. The logic behind the couple fighting for silly reasons looks a bit weird. The film had scope to elevate gripping drama but that does not happen as the director Shiva Nirvana, keeps things simple and narrates the film on just a passable note. When the cracks begin to form, it doesn’t even come up that maybe these two didn’t know each other well enough. The penultimate solution he finds for their issues, courtesy of Rohini and Jayaram’s characters, also feels on-the-nose and a little bit silly. Crisper editing and a little bit of magic instead of oddly written humor might have aided the film more. Also, Kushi could have done with a shorter runtime for better impact.

Overall, movie is predictable yet entertaining love story despite the draggy bits. Love triumphs above all else is a message all of us could use. The main point of the film unfolds in the latter hour, which is packed with good drama and emotions. It is a likeable rom com with a neat second half. My view on this movie Time Pass.
