Khel Khel Mein Review: Delightful comedy drama should be watched for wholesome entertainment
Khel Khel Mein Movie Rating: 3 Stars

Watched Vettaiyan movie in Cinema. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal.
Director: Mudassar Aziz
Release Date: 15th August 2024 release in cinemas & 10th October 2024 on Netflix

Story: Movie is a remake of Italian film Perfect Strangers (2016). It revolves around four friends and the spouses of three of them meet at a social event and decide to play a game which turns out to be fun as well as dangerous. Rishabh (Akshay Kumar) a plastic surgeon habituated to lying is about to get divorced from his 2nd wife Vartika Malik (Vaani Kapoor).

However, both have decided to give each other three months before coming to any decision. Vartika’s sister Radhika (Diljot Kaur Chhabra) is getting married and both head to the Jaipur to attend the marriage. Their entourage includes the ever-spirited Samar (Aditya Seal) and his fabulously wealthy wife Naina (Pragya Jaiswal), a perfectly paired Harpreet Singh and Harpreet Kaur (Ammy Virk and Taapsee Pannu) and the dapper stud Kabir (Fardeen Khan).

To help pass the night, instead of playing antakshari, they come up with a new game – their phones would become public property for the night. That means every message, every email, would be read out loud and every photo and video would be shared. And yes, all the calls would be on speaker.

What begins as an innocent and fun game turns out to threaten the very foundations of the marriages of Rishabh-Vartika, Harpreet-Harpreet and Samar-Nayna, besides their friendship too. Skeletons come rolling out of the cupboards of the participants as they struggle to cover up their past actions while maintaining or pretending to maintain their composure. What happens in the final tally?

Positives
1. Performances
2. Story
3. Dialogues
4. Direction
5. Background Music

Negatives
1. Length
2. Screenplay in 2nd half
3. Songs
4. Climax

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas on OTT releases as trailer looks good in parts only and there were multiple options on Independence Day.

What if for one night your mobile phone was a public property? 7 friends at a party decide to play a seemingly harmless but as it turns out, a dangerous game which might have earth-shattering consequences as relationships, marriages and identities are at stake.

Khel Khel Mein story is both funny and entertaining. It displayed a sensitive and emotional touch towards the characters making all of them relatable. Some jokes and punches do seem forced. However, the story takes a grip in the second half keeping the viewer connected with emotions and drama as major and confusing secrets come out resulting in a hilarious drive. It invites you to a night of playful games that quickly spiral into nightmare, putting relationships to the test. Each of the seven lead actors has put his/her best foot forward but Akshay Kumar steals the show among all. Mudassar Aziz’s direction and writing shine through the entertaining script, taut screenplay, and emotional dialogues—Rishabh’s call with his 18-year-old daughter where she wants to stay over with her boyfriend for the first time, and his speech at his sister-in-law’s wedding will win your heart. The writer-director proves a movie can be entertaining and engaging even when the set-up is confined to a hotel room’s dining table. John Stewart Eduri’s background score is impactful, especially the use of the recreated version of the song ‘Parde Mein Rehne Do’.

It is never able to go all out on the comedic or the dramatic portions. In its quest to balance both, it is not able to do full justice to either. The entertainment that the movie aims to provide is subdued by the lessons that it is trying to give. No denying that there is substance in what’s said but it costs the film more than it helps. Lastly, the movie could do with a slightly shorter run time for more impact. It is also difficult to digest that everyone has such deep dark secrets. Secondly, the track of the accident is not well utilized. One doesn’t understand what exactly happened and how the accused walked away scot-free. Lastly, this is an urban film and has certain themes and tracks that won’t be appealing to the mass audience. The fact that its set in one hotel suite also restricts its cinematic appeal.

Overall movie is entertaining comedy drama boasts on novel script and fantastic performances. It is a package of fun, drama, laughter, and emotions with unveiling of secrets and confessions. They look like an actual group of friends supporting each other despite the hiccups and that’s the real learning from the film. My view on this movie Recommended if you have missed this one in cinemas.
