Kathmandu Connection Review: Gripping story is let down by poor execution and climax
Kathmandu Connection Web Series Rating: 2 stars

Just watched Kathmandu Connection web series on Sony LIV. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.

Cast: Amit Sial, Aksha Pardasany, Anshumaan Pushkar and Gopal Datt
Director: Sachin Pathak
Release Date: 23rd April 2021 (On Sony LIV)
Duration: 6 Episodes/ 30 Minutes

Story: The show first introduces Inspector Samarth Kaushik (Amit Sial) guns down two suspected terrorists in 1990 New Delhi and wins a promotion and become DCP. The encounter seemed quite shady as the cops just open fired at the two men. He become an encounter specialist in the Delhi Police force. He is known to solves cases with conviction despite his personal life falling apart.

Three years later, Mumbai has been rocked by serial blasts and an investigation is on. However, his public image begins to crumble when he fails to solve a high-profile case. DCP Samarth is immediately asked to hand over the case to a colleague but follows new leads on his own. Meanwhile, he pursues other personal interests like journalist Shivani Bhatnagar (Aksha Pardasany). Shivani is the prime time news anchor of Global News, who has been receiving suspicious calls at home and at the studio. The mystery caller makes weird requests and often sends gifts to her.

Shivani asks for Samarth’s help to get rid of the caller while subtle romance brews between them. Meanwhile, Hitesh Aggrawal (Gopal Datt) a CBI officer is investigating the murder of a fellow officer who was working on the Bombay Blast Case. Samarth and Hitesh follow leads of their separate cases all leading to the one phone number of Casion that is in Kathmandu.

Soon Samarth and his reluctant assistant Shravan Mishra (Anuraag Arora) are off to Kathmandu, looking for a possible commonality that connects these events. There awaits the Dawood Ibrahim aide and politician Mirza Beg (Zakir Hussain) and his henchman Sunny (Anshumaan Pushkar). Sunny has outgrown his mentor, and is also keen on clearing his name of accusations that he was among those who was part of the plot that set off serial bomb blasts in Mumbai on March 12, 1993.

However, when Mirza is found dead in his own casino even as Samarth and team barely start their investigations, they realize they could be up against a force that operates from the shadows one that is far more sinister than the vile casino owner Mirza. Can he track down the missing pieces of the puzzle or the driving force behind these heinous crimes?

Positives
1. Excellent performance
2. Screenplay
3. Background music
4. First 3 episodes

Negatives
1. Direction
2. Climax
3. Length
4. Last 3 episodes

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer panned to watch on first day because of it’s gripping story.

The series is based on the intense subject of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast and will explore the conspiracy behind it. Three major cases—an officer is murdered, a hotelier is kidnapped, and a reporter is being stalked—leads DCP Samarth Kaushik to Kathmandu. But will he be able to connect the dots to find the mastermind behind these crimes?

Even though the storyline featuring several twists seems promising, the execution is a let down. Halfway through the show, all characters begin to behave inorganically. The long pauses and awkward dialogues often take away the intended emotional impact of the scenes. The final episode in the season also ends halfway through a conversation, which hints at a cliffhanger but cuts off awkwardly.

Overall, Kathmandu Connection is not at par with some other Sony LIV originals because it does fizzle out in between as the writing becomes wayward and the show takes a generic route too. Keeping these loopholes aside you can watch with lower expectations. My view on this web series (Time Pass)
