Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in Hindi on OTT as trailer looks engaging in parts.

Set in Kalimpong, the crime drama follows the story of a single mother and her daughter, who find themselves entangled in a murder. They find an unexpected ally in their neighbor, a simple but genius teacher while navigating the ongoing police investigation.

Jaane Jaan story is gripping but quite similar to Ajay Devgn recent blockbuster movie Drishyam. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that there’s more to the murder than meets the eye, and the cat-and-mouse game between the characters is engaging. The film has plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked but not everything is explained clinically. What the director has excelled in is to provide an emotional gravitas to the proceedings. You tend to sympathies with the protagonists, wanting them to win, wanting them to stretch their bluff till the very end. You’re witness to their crimes but you’re willing to turn a blind eye to it for the sake of humanity. Besides being a mystery drama, the movie also explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the fine line between devotion and obsession. The film rests hugely on the shoulders of its three principal protagonists.

On the flipside, a few developments are unconvincing. The actions of Naren are difficult to digest. One wonders if he could have thought of a better solution. A few questions remain unanswered; in fact, the film ends abruptly. It would have been great if the makers had opened up on it, instead of not divulging the secret at all. The first half is very slow, and the editing team could have done a much better job. The movie also ends on an abrupt note without providing answers to the few questions. The character of Ajit Mhatre should have been shown in a more detailed manner. Direction is also not up to the mark. Building much on hype, does falter to the expectations.

Overall, movie is a passable crime thriller with some gripping moments, unexpected twists and turns with excellent performances. If you have an affinity for the kind of cinema that exudes a melancholic, enigmatic, and contemplative atmosphere, this film will strike a chord with you. Despite having an intriguing plot and setup, the lackluster handling of twists and characters works against the film. My view on this movie Time Pass.
