Jaadugar Review: Movie has enough moments that will draw you into Meenu’s jaadugiri but fails to score that metaphorical goal
Jaadugar Movie Rating: 2.5 Stars
Just watched Jaadugar movie on Netflix. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Jitendra Kumar, Jaaved Jaaferi, Arushi Sharma, Manoj Joshi and Rukshar Dhillon
Director: Sameer Saxena
Release Date: 15th July 2022 on Netflix
Story: Movie is set in the small town of Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh which revolves around Meenu (Jitendra Kumar) who comes from a football family. His late father and his uncle Pradeep (Jaaved Jaaferi) were all football legends. Naturally, immense pressure falls on Meenu to follow in their footsteps and join his uncle’s team to compete in the local football tournament.
He hates the game with a passion and believes it costs him his father’s life, so he finds succor in magic instead and grows up to be an aspiring magician just like his Guruji Magician Chhabra (Manoj Navneet Joshi). Things change for him when he falls head over heels in love with Dr. Disha (Arushi Sharma), who has her own troubled past.
Meanwhile Meenu go to know that Disha’s father is none than his Guruji has two challenges for him and first one is to win the football trophy or reach to the finals in order to win Disha’s hand in marriage. But the odds aren’t in his favor as Disha doesn’t reciprocate his feelings and his team hasn’t won a game in years.
Another track follows a flawed team of players who compete in a prestigious inter-colony football tournament, including office workers, shopkeepers, teachers, and regular middle-class people. They all have one thing in common: they don’t have the best skills but play the game with all their hearts. Pradeep coaches them all with the goal of fulfilling his brother’s one and only wish by winning the championship. But how far does he really go? Will Pradeep be able to assemble a team capable of bringing the trophy home? Will Meenu be able to woo his true love?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on digital premiere because loved the trailer and its noble intent.
In a small football-loving town Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh, a small-time magician, Magic Meenu who has no athletic skill must help his team win a football trophy to marry his love interest, but the problem is that his team hasn’t won a game in many years.
Jaadugar writers manage to hold one’s attention for most part of the film; however, the pace slackens in the second half and could have benefitted from a tighter edit. Also, the pre-interval run is high on energy, while the post-interval run is high on drama; a better balance could have earned the film some brownie points. The protagonist’s circumstances increase the intensity, and one-liners induce humor in the first half. The majority of the second half, however, is spent on the field, where the Neemuch team competes against teams from neighboring colonies. We don’t see them practicing; instead, players and viewers are constantly reminded of how important it is to win this trophy, making it difficult for spectators to become involved in any of the games.
It lacks the magic and the content that makes sense or even brainlessly entertains. There are some films that have a good intent at the outset, but to achieve that they often get lost along the way. However, the message it tries to convey gets lost while juggling multiple ideas of love, football, passion, women empowerment, family, and more, which make this less entertaining and more exhausting. To sum it up, it is supposedly a magic and sports comedy drama, with zilch magic or comedy. To sum up, movie has enough moments that will draw you into Meenu’s jaadugiri but fails to score that metaphorical goal. My view on this movie Recommended only if you are fan of Jeetu Bhaiya.
