Finally IPL is happening. Yes IPL 2020 is all set to be played in UAE from 19 September to 10 November as our Indian government has given the clearance. This is great news for crickets fans from all over the world who loves IPL.
Following the IPL Governing Council meeting on Sunday (2nd August) it was decided that the matches will be played in “Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi” and in comings days schedule will be out.
IPL title sponsors Vivo may be exit from their contractual agreement with the BCCI ahead of this season. The Chinese mobile handset manufacturer, who had been discussing deliverables with the BCCI, found themselves on receiving end of a social media backlash due to tensed situation between both countries.
Since Covid-19 is still a big concern so early matches may be played under empty stadiums although UAE board is trying for 30-50% spectators in the ground for all the matches.
IPL Governing Council has also setup few rules and regularities for this IPL to keep the safety in the mind. Few of key decisions are:
– Each team can have total 24 members in their squad.
– Unlimited substitutes will available in case of Covid-19.
– Matches will start at 19:30 IST instead of the 20:00 IST which has been the norm and the afternoon ones at 15:30 IST.
– There will be 10 double-headers in total.
– Four matches of the Women’s T20 Challenge will take place during the IPL play-off week to be played by three teams.
One more interesting fact is here that for the first time in the history of IPL final is set to played in weekdays instead of weekends. Earlier IPL was scheduled to finish by 8 Nov but after the meeting final date was changed to 10 Nov.
So stage is all set. Being a fan of Mumbai Indians and Kings X1 Punjab from the first season wanted any of them to win this season today as well.
