Team India scored 164/6 in their 20 overs. Fair to say that the visitors have been strangulated in the death overs. They lost a wicket first ball, then recovered well with Dhawan, Samson and Suryakumar all looking comfortable, the last named also getting to a fifty. But as the innings progressed, Sri Lanka found joy with the change of pace – a sprint of shower recalibrated India’s plans with Dhawan and Suryakumar both falling for big shots. Hardik Pandya simply couldn’t counter the conditions, Ishan Kishan threw his bat at everything, but had little to show for it. Still, with the wicket slowing down, 164 could be a very good score. Sri Lanka unable to chased down the target and all out for 126 runs in 18.3 overs and lost the game by 38 runs. A comprehensive 38-run victory. 165 proved too much for Sri Lanka in the end. Except for Charith Asalanka’s threat, there wasn’t any impactful innings from the hosts’ batsmen. Avishka showed some intent at the start but Bhuvneshwar got rid of him in his new spell. Asalanka tried stitching a few partnerships but lacked support at the other end. With the required rate climbing up each over and the track getting slower and slower, it was quite a challenge to find the big hits. And once Asalanka was dismissed in the 16th over, the writing was on the wall as India kept picking wickets after that and asphyxiated the chase. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the stand-out bowler with four scalps but others too performed their roles perfectly. Charith Asalanka scored 44 of 26 balls and Avishka Fernando scored 26 of 23 balls. For India Bhuvneshwar Kumar pick 4 wickets for 22 runs in 3.3 overs quota.
