Team India scored 191/6 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. New Zealand will be so happy to have kept India down below 200 here. Thanks to that last over from Southee who took a hat-trick and conceded just 5 off it. More importantly the man of the moment SKY was off strike. Only time will tell whether that proves to be pivotal. But one has to wax lyrical about SKY here. His 2nd T20I ton and currently there is none better than him in this format. After Pant and Ishan Kishan struggled and Shreyas Iyer trod on his stumps after looking good, SKY batted as if he was from another planet. All those patented shots of the lofted extra-cover drive, the inside-out hit over extra-cover, the get inside the line and help it over fine-leg, the ramp, the sweeps off the spinners and the cuts over backward point – were there for everyone to enjoy and revel in. Not one area of the ground was left unpicked as he oozed elegance and mad form right from the word go. Even the usually impressive Santner and Sodhi were taken for runs and at the end when New Zealand tried to unsettle him with the slower balls from the seamers, he just feasted. A turbo-charged innings which just took off after his fifty and he just continues his glorious run. His innings has given India a big score. Suryakumar Yadav scored 111* runs of 51 balls and Ishan Kishan scored 36 runs of 31 balls. For New Zealand, Tim Southee pick 3 wickets for 34 runs in his 4 overs quota.

New Zealand unable to chase the target and bowled out for 126 runs in 18.5 overs. A complete no-show from the Black Caps in the run chase. They needed Allen to fire but he fell off just the second ball of the innings and although Conway got a partnership going with Williamson, neither of them were able to force the pace at all, barring one Sundar over that went for 17. India’s bowlers were largely on the money, Chahal being the standout and Bhuvi set the tone early with the new ball. Hooda with his part-time spin enjoyed the benefits of scoreboard pressure and reeled off four wickets, most of them coming after the game was all but done. In hindsight, it did seem like that the pitch wasn’t the easiest to play big shots at will and that makes SKY’s century all the greater. He struck at 217 while the rest of the batters from both sides barely managed to go at run-a-ball or thereabouts. One outstanding innings. Williamson did get himself a fifty but that was just a milestone and nothing else as he struggled for timing right through. Skipper Kane Williamson scored 61 of 52 balls and Devon Conway scored 25 runs of 22 balls. For Team India, Deepak Hooda picks 4 wickets for 10 runs in his 2.5 overs.
A convincing victory for #TeamIndia as they beat New Zealand by 65 runs with 7 deliveries to spare.
India lead the series 1-0.
