Team India scored 326/5 runs in their 50 overs after batting first. A brilliant batting display from India has enabled them to post an above-par total on a slowish surface. After winning the toss and opting to bat, skipper Rohit came out with intent and took India off to a blazing start. His breezy knock of 40 off 24 balls was very crucial to set the tone for the middle order. He perished trying to hit Rabada but he had already done his job. Gill got off to a start but couldn’t convert it into a big one as Maharaj bowled a dream delivery to outfox him. Kohli and Iyer took their time initially but once they got their eye in, they found boundaries consistently. Iyer in particular shifted gears and kept the momentum going. Iyer departed against the run of play and Rahul departed cheaply after that, but Kohli stood solid as a rock from the other end and kept the scoreboard ticking. He slowed down before his century but Jadeja came out and got going from the word go. Kohli eventually scored his 49th ODI ton to equal Sachin’s record and Jadeja provided the final flourish. Maharaj and Rabada bowled brilliant spells but the others were off-colour today. Chasing 327 won’t be an easy task for the Proteas but their batters are in stellar form. Add to that the potential dew factor and small boundaries, you never know! Virat Kohli scored 101* runs of 121 balls and Shreyas Iyer scored 77 runs of 87 balls. For South Africa, Ngidi, Rabada, Maharaj, Jansen & Shamsi picked 1 wicket each.

South Africa unable to chase the target and bowled out for just 83 runs in 27.1 overs and lost the game by huge 243 runs. Indian team is on fire. They guarantee the pole position in the points table. They remain unscathed. They have done more to send down shivers to their opponents. No one wants to play India in this form. They are just too hot to handle. This was supposed to be the big battle as the top two teams squared off. But India have just shut it off well before time. SA didn’t even last 30 overs. Total annihilation. Total dominance. Bring out more adjectives. Rohit set it up. Gill fell to a peach. Kohli had business as usual. Along the way equalled the great man by scoring his 49th ton on his B’day. Shreyas took his time and then took on the bowlers and Jadeja provided the final hurrah to propel India to 326. It always looked above par. But when SA came out to bat, we knew it was lightyears ahead of being par. Bumrah continued his unplayable form. Siraj nipped out QDK early as he chopped it on. Rohit summoned Jadeja early and he went on a wicket taking spree. Shami came in and picked up two and Kuldeep arrived to polish off the tail. The word clinical has found an apt sub in the form of this Indian cricket team. Just phenomenal. Marco Jansen scored 14 of 30 balls and Rassie van der Dussen scored 13 runs of 32 balls. For Team India, Ravindra Jadeja picked 5 wickets for 33 runs in his 9 overs.
