1st T20I (India Vs West Indies)
Game Date: 29th July 2022
Details:
West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to field first in the 1st T20I against Team India at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. Alzaari Joseph is debuting for West Indies.

Team India scored 190/6 in their 20 overs after batting first. This 52-run stand between Karthik and Ashwin off 25 balls has totally turned around the momentum of the innings. 36 came off the last two overs as West Indies were penalised for their over-rate issues and an extra fielder had to be brought inside as a result. West Indies did all the right things for around 16-17 overs before they lost the plot against the unorthodox Karthik who again is turning the clock back and leaving many scratching their everything as to how he does it still, after making his debut 18 years ago. It was Rohit who blazed away at the top but the others did not contribute much as West Indies bowled and fielded exceptionally with Akeal Hosein outstanding. When Rohit and Jadeja fell, India would’ve been happy with 160 but they have got 190 due to Karthik’s heroics. Slower balls into the wicket, using the big boundary to one side is the way to go on this wicket. We saw Hosein get the ball to grip and turn. Let’s see if India can do the same. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 64 runs of 44 balls and Dinesh Karthik scored 41* runs of 19 balls. For West Indies, Alzarri Joseph picks 2 wickets for 46 runs in his 4 overs quota.

West Indies unable to chase the target and scored 122/8 in their 20 overs and lost the game by 68 runs. WI got off to a blazing start with Mayers mauling ’em to all corners, but Arshdeep had the last laugh despite conceding 10 off his first 2 deliveries. The promotion of Jason Holder didn’t quite work for the Windies as he got knocked over by Jaddu for a 4-ball duck. It was all building up nicely around the 8th over as Windies gathered some momentum by taking 13 runs off Jadeja‘s second over. Things, however, changed quite quickly with Ashwin and Bishnoi ripping through the powerful middle-order. Once Odean Smith got out in the 14th over, there was hardly any intent and credit to the Indian spinners who bowled splendidly well to tie the batters down with clever change in pace and variations. Shamarh Brooks scored 20 of 15 balls and Keemo Paul scored 19* runs of 22 balls. For Team India, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi & Ashwin picks 2 wickets each.
