Extraction 2 Review: This action thriller sequel takes the madness level many notches higher despite weak climax
Extraction 2 Movie Rating: 3.5 Stars

Just watched Extraction 2 movie on Netflix. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili and Idris Elba
Director: Sam Hargrave
Release Date: 16th June 2023 on Netflix

Story: This is a sequel to the first film that was based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad‘ by Ande Parks. In the first installment first installment, mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) wreaked havoc in Dhaka to save the kidnapped son of a powerful drug lord.

Sequel begins from events of the first film where Tyler barely survives. His teammates Nik (Golshifteh Farahani) and Yaz (Adam Bessa) help him relocate to Austria to lead his retired life. One day, stranger named Alcott (Idris Elba) gives him a mission to rescue his ex-wife Mia (Olga Kurylenko)’s sister Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili) and her two children Sandro and Nina.

They are currently imprisoned along with her gangster husband Davit Radiani (Tornike Bziava) at Tkachiri prison in Georgia. Tyler asked Nik and Yaz to join him and they infiltrate the prison. During the extraction, Davit attacks Tyler and Ketevan with Tyler viciously killing Davit.

This enrages his brother Zurab (Tornike Gogrichiani) who is a notorious gangster and drug lord and he goes all out to exact revenge. Will Zurab be able to capture Tyler? Will Tyler be able to save himself? Will Ketevan and the kids be saved eventually? Will Tyler lose people who’re close to him? Will the ghosts from the first film come back to haunt Tyler? What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on premiere day because loved the first movie and sequel trailer is also looking interesting and engaging.

Back from the brink of death from his Bangladesh mission, highly skilled commando Tyler Rake takes on another dangerous mission: saving the imprisoned family of a ruthless gangster.

Extraction 2 once again serves as a catalyst for intense and brutal action. However, this time around, we get a deeper understanding of Rake’s character as the mission becomes more personal and he is saving a family from within another family. Just like its predecessor, the film is filled with slick action sequences, including one particularly long and unbroken take that is sure to thrill fans of the genre. From the powerful background score to the sweeping shots of breathtaking locations, where blood is spilled abundantly. It caters to action enthusiasts as a high-octane film. However, unlike its predecessor, this installment takes on a more Euro-style thriller approach, where the line between good and bad blurs as both sides engage in a killing spree, and the presence of law enforcement in any country they visit is virtually nonexistent.

On the flipside, while the first and second acts of the film are thoroughly entertaining, the last act is a bit unimaginative. The one-take shot and the action scene at the Vienna skyscraper take the madness level many notches higher and the climax fails to reach that level. Ideally, the film should have ended once Tyler and his team escape from Vienna. While it may not surpass the original, still it is a must-watch for fans who enjoyed the first film. It provides the perfect follow-up to satisfy your craving for action. Movie serves its purpose and caters to its target audience in the best possible way. The action is sleek, the cinematography is kick ass and the editing is crisp and hooks you on. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
