Drishyam 2 Movie Rating: 3.5 Stars

Finally watched Drishyam 2 movie in Cinemas. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, Rajat Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla
Director: Abhishek Pathak
Release Date: 18th November 2022 in Cinemas

Story: Movie is the sequel of Drishyam. The film starts seven years after the first one ended. Vijay (Ajay Devgn) is now a theatre owner who dreams of making a film based on a story he has written. His elder daughter Anju (Ishita Dutta) is still reeling from the shock of the traumatic events, while his younger daughter Anu (Mrunal Jadhav) is in her teens. Every member of the family including his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) is moving on with life as usual but always on guard and with a haunting sense of fear which never leaves them.

The police reopen the murder case against the Salgaonkar family. The investigating police officer this time is Meera’s (Tabu) friend and senior Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna). Meera is convinced that Vijay and/or his family members have murdered her teenaged son, but she has not been able to solve the murder mystery because of which they are roaming scot-free.

Police investigations and the witness of a drug peddler David (Siddharth Bodke) help Tarun Ahlawat dig out the skeleton of Meera and Mahesh’s (Rajat Kapoor) son. The police torture Vijay’s family so much that he is forced to confess to his crime. However, in the court, Vijay tells the judge that his confession was taken under duress. Does he manage to once again go scot-free or is he nabbed this time for the murder he committed seven years ago?

Positives
1. Excellent Performances
2. Cinematography
3. Story
4. Direction
5. Climax

Negatives
1. Music
2. Screenplay
3. slow 1st half

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas because loved the first part and 2nd one also looked engaging.

7 years after the case related to Vijay Salgaonkar and his family was closed, a series of unexpected events bring a truth to light that threatens to change everything for the Salgaonkars. Can Vijay save his family this time?

The film is a remake of Malayalam film Drushyam 2. The original story is written by Jeethu Joseph and it must be said, it is both, intelligent and engrossing. The twist in the story towards the end is masterly. The drama moves at a slow pace in the first half and in several parts of the second half. Therefore, it tends to become boring at several places. However, if even this major drawback does not come in the way of the enjoyment. The feeling that when movie was so intelligently and so well-written, the sequel will also be substantive keeps the audience’s interest alive despite the slow pace and the ordinary narration.

Direction is average in the first half. Like the script, his narration also gathers steam in the post-interval portion. The last few reels are excellent. This Hindi version has nothing new to offer to those who have seen the Malayalam version. For those who haven’t seen it, the film will provide several thrilling moments and a couple of shocking twists. The intermission point is unexpected and gives some indication that this film also is a roller coaster ride. Post interval, Tarun meeting Nandini and his daughters is memorable. But the best is reserved for the last 30 minutes. The turn of events is completely unpredictable and will induce claps and whistles. Performances are major highlight of this film as each of them has performed stupendously.

Overall, movie is a justified sequel and gives a paisa-vasool experience thanks to the performances, script and applause-worthy last half an hour. It dishes out plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked throughout, just like its predecessor. And the story of the Salgaokars will continue to remain in public memory. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
