Director: Anurag Kashyap
Release Date: 19th August 2022 in Cinemas & Digital premiere on Netflix from 15th October 2022

Story: This is official remake of the Spanish film Mirage. Set in Hinjewadi, Pune it oscillates between the mid-1990s and the current times. The chain of events sets in with 12-year-old Anay (Arrian Sawant) getting bumped off by a heavy vehicle while trying to escape from his neighbour’s Raja Ghosh (Saswata Chatterjee) house after witnessing the murder of ghost wife Rujuta (Medini Kelamane).

Twenty-five years later, Antara (Taapsee) who is a nurse at a local hospital moves into Anay’s house as its new owner with her husband Vikas (Rahul Bhat) and daughter Avanti (Myra Rajpal). On a stormy night, identical to the one on which Anay died, Antara aware of Anay’s death and finds herself communicating with Anay through his old TV set and video cassette.

But in doing so, she changes her own timeline in the process and lands up in a parallel life where she’s married to someone else and, worse doesn’t have a daughter. How she solves a 25-year-old murder in order to get her own life back forms the crux of the film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in on OTT because trailer looks just good for me so skipped theatrical watch.

A woman gets an opportunity to save the life of a 12-year-old boy, who witnessed a death during a thunderstorm that happened 25 years ago, by getting connected through the television set during a similar storm in the present.

The film engages you from the first frame when you’re sucked into the feeling that something ominous is about to happen. As things begin to unfold one by one, you wonder where all of this is heading, hoping that course-correction for the characters’ journeys will find its way into the narrative at some point. It’s only sometime towards the fag end when one starts feeling restless with the runtime. Shortening the length, a bit would have made the thriller even more taut. The plot is promising and unique for Bollywood. A good thing about the screenplay is that it is fast-paced and hence does not give the time to think. There are a number of twists and turns in the drama, all of which keep the viewers involved. The thread of screenplay is rather engaging because of which the audience gets involved in the guessing game. The revelation of the suspense is interesting. Also, there are some scenes which shock

Direction is also very good. Despite the complex narrative, Anurag ensures that the audiences don’t get confused about where the film is heading. However, in the second half, the thrill factor disappears. One would have expected some action in the Raja Ghosh track, but it didn’t happen. The ending is not impactful, and one wishes the film would have gone on a high in the climax. The film lags behind on the chills and thrills that one expects of a time travel-based thriller and misses out on creating the edge-of-the-seat atmosphere. The premise had the scope but is probably left undercooked. Nonetheless excellent performances and engaging first half makes this film a decent watch. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
