Dhokha Review: An illogical crime thriller with full of flaws
Dhokha Movie Rating: 1.5 Stars
Finally watched Dhokha: Round D Corner movie on Netflix. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: R. Madhavan, Khushali Kumar, Aparshakti Khurana and Darshan Kumaar
Director: Kookie Gulati
Release Date: 23rd September 2022 in Cinemas & Digital premiere on Netflix from 18th November 2022
Story: Movie revolves around married couple Yatharth Sinha (R. Madhavan) and Sanchi (Khushali Kumar). However, their marriage is on the brink of collapse. Saanchi keeps pressuring Yathaarth to speak with his divorce lawyer and plans to move to the UK.
One day, a terrorist, Haq Gul (Aparshakti Khurana) escapes from the police van and enters Sanchi’s house. Yatharth is away at work while the maid is out to shop for household goods. Haq Gul holds Sanchi hostage and makes demands which police inspector Malik (Darshan Kumar) refuses to give in to. Malik is present at the housing society with his entire posse of policemen.
When Yatharth sees this on the news and rushes back to the apartment complex, he meets ACP Malik and tells him that Sanchi is mentally ill and dangerous when she has an episode. Sanchi, on the other hand tries to persuade Haq that her husband is trying to prove her crazy as he’s having an extramarital affair with her psychiatrist. The situation is similar with Haq Gul and ACP Malik, as they give contradicting versions of the former being a terrorist and a bomb blast accused
As the police fail to make headway into securing Sanchi’s release, Yatharth gets edgy and even accuses Malik of not putting his best foot forward. Is Malik really lackadaisical in his efforts or is it just the anxiety of a concerned husband? Is Yatharth speaking the truth or is Sanchi honest about Yatharth’s games?
Positives
1. Performances
2. Direction
3. Story
Negatives
1. Climax
2. Screenplay
3. Length
Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on digital premiere as looks good and always loved Madhvan acting.
When a housewife with a personality disorder is taken hostage by a terrorist on the loose and a husband accused of cheating on his wife, have their own versions of reality, how do we know what the truth is?
A fairly interesting story which keeps the audience wondering about who is speaking the truth and who is lying. The screenplay is alright in parts only because it is unable to sustain the audience’s interest in the same way from the start till the end. In other words, there are portions which bore, and there are also portions which appear to be giveaways. Since the drama is about just one incident, monotony does set in in the unfolding proceedings. A taut thriller ought to keep the audiences on the edge of their seats, but the narration is found a bit lacking in that area.
Everybody in the story has dirty secrets and these are conveniently kept under wraps until the very end. When they begin to tumble out, they do so in a bewildering rush, making everything that has gone before appearing even more grotesque than one had initially assumed it to be. Performance by lead actors is good and even story looks engaging in the beginning but let down by poor execution. Overall, a poor suspense thriller which has only few moments. My view on this movie Not Recommended.
