Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui Review: Refreshing take on LGBTQ community

Finally watched Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui movie on Netflix. So let’s focus on the cast, release date story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Story: Manu Munjal (Ayushmann Khurrana) lives with his father (Girish Dhamija) and grandfather (Aanjjan Srivastav) and is a gym trainer in his own gym. His sisters Preet (Tanya Abrol) and Meet (Sawan Rupowali) are married and they try to dominate his life and his choices. His father, meanwhile, is trying to force him to quit being a bodybuilder as he’s not earning much.
His family is concerned about his marriage but Manu doesn’t seem to like any girl, probably because he is focused on only winning the body builder championship. He has lost a bodybuilding championship two consecutive times to Sandy (Abhishek Bajaj) who is a fellow bodybuilder. Manu is gearing up for the upcoming edition of the tournament but he doesn’t seem to be in his best form. Life is not going great but one day, he meets Maanvi Brar (Vaani Kapoor). She has rented a vacant space in Manu’s gym to conduct Zumba classes.
Manu falls in love with Maanvi and in a moment of passion the two even get intimate one day. All hell breaks loose when Manu gets to know a truth about Maanvi, and he instantly walks out on her, accusing her of having cheated him. By then, his family has approved of Maanvi as his to-be bride. The family freaks out when it is brought to their notice that Manu now doesn’t want to marry Maanvi. Of course, Manu does not tell the family about how he had felt cheated by Maanvi. Soon, the family learns about the same truth which had prompted Manu to leave Maanvi.
What is that truth? Do Manu and Maanvi come together ultimately or do they go their separate ways? What is the family’s stance? What happens to Manu’s body-building?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on digital premiere because of director previous movie Kedarnath which I loved and always fan of Ayushmann movie selection.
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui story is progressive, refreshing, and the need of the hour as it drives home an important message. However the writing could have been stronger in the second half which is not very convincing. There was an opportunity to have some great punchlines in nearly every sentence. In this regard, the writers missed the boat. Director deserves kudos as he handles this bit very sensitively and even defies stereotype. The comedy and light moments are quite enjoyable at several places.
Movie tackles a bold and taboo subject sensitively and is high on emotions. The performances of lead actors are like the icing on the cake. But it has limited appeal due to bold scenes which family audiences may not watch and in the 2nd half After Maanvi’s revelation, it seemed like the writers did not know what to do to keep the interest going. They do pepper the narrative with some interesting scenes but it’s not as impactful as the scenes in the first half. On the whole film has very limited class appeal. My view on this movie Time Pass.
