Team India scored 249/9 in their 50 overs after batting first. They have finished with a competitive score, and this should make for a very interesting chase. Shubman Gill was trapped LBW early on, and then Rohit skewed a pull shot towards the mid-wicket fielder. Kohli was out thanks to a splendid catch by Phillips at backward point, as India were 30/3 at one stage. India recovered through Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, as the duo combined for a good partnership although they batted too slowly. Axar was dismissed thanks to another sharp catch from New Zealand, and Santner got the wicket of KL Rahul shortly after. Iyer went on to score a fifty but fell to the short ball after plenty of successful shots before that. Hardik Pandya scored a run a ball 45 to give India that late dash in the slog overs and help them get to 249. This is a slow pitch that is turning quite a bit, but it could get better in the second innings. Will it be a straightforward chase for them or will the Indian spinners create trouble for the Kiwis? Shreyas Iyer scored 79 runs of 98 balls and Hardik Pandya scored 45 runs of 45 balls. For New Zealand, Matt Henry picked 5 wickets for 42 runs in his 8 overs.

New Zealand unable to chase the target and bowled out for 205 runs in 45.3 overs and lost the game by 44 runs. On a slow, low surface that was turning quite a bit, India have terrorised the opposition with nearly 40 overs of spin, coasting through to a win in the end. New Zealand lost Rachin Ravindra early, thanks a diving catch from Axar at third-man. Will Young and Williamson got a bit of a partnership, but the former was castled by Chakravarthy. Mitchell and Williamson then scored too slowly, as the spinners sunk their claws into them. Mitchell departed, and then the rest of the middle order feel meekly. Williamson was waging a long battle but he too was stumped off Axar Patel’s final delivery. Santner entertained with a few meaty sixes, but the game was too far gone by then. Jadeja was turning it square at pace, and Chakravarthy deceived the batters with his variations. The mystery spinner ended with a fifer, while the rest of the spinners were all amongst the wickets. Kane Williamson scored 81 of 120 balls and skipper Mitchell Santner scored 28 runs of 31 balls. For Team India, Varun Chakaravarthy picked 5 wickets for 42 runs in his 10 overs quota.
