Team India won Perth Test-cricketmovie.com

Border Gavaskar Trophy 2025: Team India registered their biggest win against Australia in the 1st Test. They won the game by 295 runs Perth Stadium, Perth.

1st Test
Game Date: 22nd November – 26th November 2024

Now I am going to share day-to-day activity of this test match with all the details, records and milestones in my way.

Day 1
Team India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss against Australia and decided to bat first at Perth Stadium, Perth. Rohit Sharma is not playing due to birth of his 2nd child. 2 debutants for India and Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy is playing today.

Team India bowled out for just 150 runs in their 1st innings after opting to bat first here in Perth. Australia will go back very satisfied with their work. The pitch offered a good amount of movement for them, and their seam attack was too good to miss out. Hazlewood picked up four, while the rest of them finished with two apiece. India were very cautious in the opening session, looking to ride out the storm, but the Aussies kept coming at them relentlessly. The only time the visitors found a little momentum was when Rishabh Pant played some shots after lunch. Nitish Reddy, on debut, showed promise as well, and the two of them put on 48 for the seventh wicket. Apart from that, they had little else to talk of. Conditions should still be seam friendly when it’s India’s turn with the ball. Let’s see how they go. Debutant Nitish Reddy scored 41 runs and Rishabh Pant scored 37 runs. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood picked 4 wickets.

Australia scored 67/7 on Day 1 stumps. They are still trailing by 83 runs with 3 wickets in hand. Record breaking first day here in Perth. As many as 17 wickets fell, which is the most number of wickets on the first day in Australia since 1952. All of those 17 wickets fell to seamers who feasted on a spicy pitch at the Perth Stadium. There was movement from beginning to end, new ball or semi-new, and the pitch even seemed to quicken up as the day went on. India were bowled out for 150 after opting to bat first, with Josh Hazlewood taking a four-fer. That they even got there was thanks to some attacking batting from Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy on debut as they shared a 48-run stand for the seventh wicket. In response, Jasprit Bumrah came out breathing fire and bowled a spell to remember with the new ball. Australia’s top order didn’t seem to stand a chance against him, and they didn’t get much respite even after his spell as Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj exploited the conditions quite well. So somehow, after being bowled out for 150, India have finished the day on top.

17 wickets is the most to fall on the first day of a Test in Australia since 1952

Day 2
Australia bowled out for just 104 runs in their 1st innings. India secure a lead of 46 as the players take lunch. Quite remarkable that the last-wicket pair for Australia managed to hang around for 110 balls out there, given what we saw yesterday. Had a lot to do with the ball getting older and not seaming around as much. But it took more than 40 overs of the innings for that to happen. The difficult part is to survive for those 40-odd overs. India had done enough damage by that point with Bumrah picking up a five-for, adding the wicket of Alex Carey to his tally from yesterday. He struck with his first ball of the day actually, getting one to nip away and find the edge of the wicketkeeper-batter. Harshit Rana removed Lyon shortly after that, before Starc and Hazlewood got stuck in. However, while they played a lot of deliveries, they didn’t score that many. So, its advantage India here in Perth. Mitchell Starc scored 26 runs and Alex Carey scored 21 runs. For Team India, Jasprit Bumrah picked 5 wickets.

Team India scored 172/0 runs in their 2nd innings on Day 2 stumps. They have led of 218 runs with all 10 wickets in hand. Extraordinary response from Indian openers after getting a lead of 46 runs. Since 2004, this is the first time that Indian openers have put up a 100-run stand in Australia.

Day 3
Team India declared their 2nd innings for 487/6 and set the target of huge target of 534 runs to Team India. India could’ve hardly asked for a better day here in Perth. They’ve taken complete control in the first Test, making the most of better batting conditions compared to yesterday. From a spicy green seamer where it was darting around everywhere, the pitch has eased out a great deal with the sun beating down on it. However, there are signs of variable bounce already with a couple of deliveries keeping low in that final session. It’s an ominous position to be in for Australia who were thwarted today by the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. The two Indian openers batted out two full sessions, taking the lead to 218. Australia started the final session with a plan to bowl dry. They succeeded to an extent, giving away just 22 runs in 17 overs before drinks. However, the floodgates sort of opened after that as the next 14 overs went for 66. Jaiswal is now 10 short of a hundred, while Rahul has calmly ticked along to 62. There have been a few plays and misses, a few strokes of luck, but mostly this pair has been in control. Admirable restraint from Jaiswal in particular as he has curbed his normal style. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161 runs and Virat Kohli scored 100* runs. For Australia, Nathan Lyon picked 2 wickets.

Australia scored 12/3 in their 2nd innings. They still need 522 runs with 7 wickets in hand. Jasprit Bumrah gets 2 wickets while Mohammed Siraj picked 1 wicket. Team India is all set to create history tomorrow.

Day 4
Australia bowled out for 238 runs in their 2nd innings and lost the game by 295 runs. Gabba 2021, Perth 2008, Adelaide 2003… India have had some historic wins in the past but this win has to be up on the list too. There was no Rohit, no Gill, no Jadeja, no Ashwin, no Shami. Two debutants and Virat Kohli wasn’t in the runs to add more worry to the inexperienced batting lineup. And they were coming off a humiliating 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home too. Australia welcomed them with the Perth Test – a venue that probably is the quickest Test venue in the world. There was grass left. It seamed around on Day 1 like never before here but India turned up to record their bossiest win ever on Australian soil when no one gave them a chance. Travis Head Scored 89 runs and Mitchell Marsh scored 47 runs. For Team India, Bumrah & Siraj picked 3 wickets.
