Blind Movie Rating: 1.5 Stars
Just watched Blind movie on Jio Cinema. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Sonam Kapoor, Purab Kohli, Vinay Pathak and Lillete Dubey
Director: Shome Makhija
Release Date: 7th July 2023 on Jio Cinema
Story: It is remake of the Korean film of the same name which revolves around a blind ex-police officer in search of a serial killer. Movie revolves around Gia Singh (Sonam Kapoor) who is a police officer in Scotland. While picking her surrogate brother Adrian (Danesh Rizvi) up from a concert, an argument in the car results in their car crashing. She loses her eyesight, but her brother lost his life.
The incident also makes her lose her job and purpose to live. She is told that she is expelled as a field agent not for her disability but negligence that caused the mishap. Her only support is a dog named Elsa. Meanwhile, girls in the city are going missing. One night, while heading home from her mother Maria (Lilette Dubey)’s house, she takes a lift from a stranger (Purab Kohli) posing as a cab driver on a fateful night.
She realizes something fishy, and Her disability doesn’t let her fight the stranger, but she manages to escape, nevertheless. She suspects that the stranger who disguised as the cab driver could well be the one who was responsible for the kidnapping of the girls. Despite being sightless, Gia becomes the key eyewitness, thanks to her senses.
The missing cases were handled by the detective Prithvi (Vinay Pathak), but very soon he realized that this was not a simple kidnapped case, but this was a well-planned, serial Kidnapped case which is linked one with the other. On the other hand, Nikhil (Shubham Saraf) sees the missing poster of the girl. He meets Prithvi and tells him that he saw the girl in a vehicle on the day she went missing. After that, how will the detective solve the case with the help pf Sight less’s protagonist Gia Singh and Nikhil is all about this movie.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on premiere day as it looks engaging and interesting.
The film follows the brutal cat and mouse game between a blind ex-cop Gia Singh and a psychopathic serial killer who likes to torture and kill young women.
Blind has adapted the story and screenplay of the Korean original, but he has been unable to make an arresting drama as it looks like a script of convenience, which keeps irritating the audience. The police are shown to be quite silly as they don’t use the obvious clues which are good enough to nab the kidnapper. The execution isn’t up to the standard. It doesn’t allow the viewers to engage with the screenplay. Despite being shot majorly at night, there are no thrills and chills to surprise you. A bling Gia is able to identify a person’s height, age and weight. It could be possible but the lack of conviction in the dialogue delivery destroys the effect. The biggest problem with the film is that things happen at convenience. It is set in an era where the characters are using the latest smartphones and yet, it seems like a city like Glasgow doesn’t have a single CCTV camera. That’s why the cops never even think of nabbing or even identifying the killer with its help. There are also several cinematic liberties.
On the positive side, the film has been staged well and has good production design. A few scenes in the film have been executed nicely, especially a chase scene involving Purab Kohli’s character. Sonam Kapoor gets the features of the blind character that she plays right. It rests on the performances and some thrilling moments. But it fails to impress due to its length and several loopholes in the script. On paper, the premise is solid and has all the elements essential for a compelling crime thriller. A lonely visually impaired character at the centre of a heinous crime, residing in a deserted sleepy town is good enough to create nerve-wracking tension and paranoia. What the film does get right, is its decision to not glamourize or romanticize a serial killer or his morbid thoughts.
Overall, movie is a dull thriller that neither engages nor entertains. Despite being a remake of the acclaimed Korean thriller-drama going by the same name, it isn’t able to come any close to it. My view on this movie Not Recommended.
