Bachchhan Paandey Review: This gangster drama only manages to entertain in bits and pieces
Bachchhan Paandey Movie Rating: 2 Stars

Just watched Bachchhan Paandey movie on Amazon Prime Video. So let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi, Prateik Babbar, Aroosa Khan, Abhimanyu Singh, Snehal Daabbi and Saharsh Kumar Shukla
Director: Farhad Samji
Release Date: 18th March 2022 in Cinemas & Digital Premiere on 15th April on Amazon Prime Video

Story: The film is a remake of Tamil film Jigarthanda which itself is a remake of Korean film A Dirty Carnival. Myra Devekar (Kriti Sanon) is an aspiring director who has a fallout with her director. She gets the support of her producer Rakesh Verma (Ashwin Mushran) and is given a task by him to come up with a gripping gangster biopic flick infested with heavy dosage of violence. Her extensive research only leads to one name, the most menacing, one eyed Bachchhan Paandey (Akshay Kumar) of Baagwa who is a ruthless gangster surrounded by quirky yet scary henchmen.

Myra reaches Baghwa and with the help of a friend, Vishu (Arshad Warsi). She begins research on Bachchhan who seems too scary and hence she begins approaching his gang members, Kandi (Saharsh Kumar Shukla), Bufferia Chacha (Sanjay Mishra), Pendulum (Abhimanyu Singh) and Virgin (Prateik Babbar).

Virgin is the only one who speaks up and while providing information, he happens to share that Bachchan Paandey was once in love with a girl named Sophie (Jacqueline Fernandez). He claims that after they got into a tiff, he killed her. However when she finally gets the chance to gain an insight into Bachchan’s life and ends up getting caught by Bachchhan Paandey. What happens next in this twist of tales takes us on a roller coaster ride.

Positives
1. Performances
2. Climax
3. Cinematography
4. Background Music

Negatives
1. Length
2. Screenplay
3. Direction
4. Story

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on digital premiere because as watched the original movie and that was just good.

Bachchhan Paandey is a gangster who literally spells terror for those whom he comes in contact with. Myra is an assistant film director who now wants to debut as a director. She is so fascinated by the terror of Paandey that she decides to make her first film on his life and journey. Towards that end, she and aspiring actor-friend Vishu reach the town in Uttar Pradesh he lives. Does the dreaded gangster allow Myra to make a film on himself? Does Myra actually make a film?

Movie starts well and he entry of the protagonist is whistle worthy. The first half is used to set up the story, but doesn’t move at a desired pace. Thankfully, there are some minor conflicts and plot twists that make you look forward to the second half, however the screenplay takes forever to make a point. The music is a big letdown and only adds to the runtime. Even after it does, there’s no consistency in the comedy. Resultantly, while the viewers laugh at places, they also get bored at some points.

A more taut screenplay would’ve been more appropriate. A major drawback of the screenplay is that no care is taken to explain why Myra and Vishu spy on Bachchhan Paandey instead of directly telling him that they want to make a film on his life. The climax is unexpected and unexpectedly touching. Overall even with all its grandiosity and starpower, this one only manages to entertain in bits and pieces. My view on this movie Time Pass only Akshay Kumar fans and also who loves the original film.
