Team India scored 212/2 runs in 20 overs after batting first. That’s an enormous total posted by India and the first 200-plus score in Asia Cup 2022. The Afghan bowlers were far better against the likes of Sri Lanka and Pakistan, but they weren’t at their best today. That’s bound to happen when you are playing on back-to-back days, especially in such challenging conditions with so much trave in betweenl. In the absence of their regular captain, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli got India off to an excellent start and had a fantastic 119-run stand. Both – Rahul and SKY were dismissed in the 13th over by Fareed Ahmad, but Kohli continued to motor along and finally brought up a fantastic century. He was waiting for it, his fans were waiting for it, and so were his team mates. The biggest positive for India in this Asia Cup has been Kohli‘s return to his form. He can thank Afghanistan for that dropped catch. Just the kind of luck he would have wished for. Virat Kohli scored 122 runs of 61 balls and Skipper KL Rahul scored 61 runs of 41 balls. Afghanistan unable to chase the target and scored only 111/8 in their 20 overs and lost the game by 101 runs. They just didn’t turn up and you can’t blame them, can you? They were involved in a mentally and physically draining encounter against Pakistan yesterday and today had to face an Indian team who wanted to finish the tournament on a high. Apart from the first 2-3 overs where Rahul and Kohli took their time to get in, Afghanistan were never in the game. The Indian openers stitched a 100+ stand and set up the platform for a big score, Kohli came into his own and broke his hundred drought with number 71, then Bhuvi blew the top order away with his skillful bowling and recorded his career-best T20I figures. The chase was over within the 7th over, Ibrahim Zadran and the lower order hung around to bat out the 20 overs and give some respectability to the final score. Ibrahim Zadran scored 64* of 59 balls and Ibrahim Zadran scored 18 runs of 13 balls. For Team India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar pick 5 wickets for just 4 runs in his 4 overs quota.
