Agni Review: Movie salutes the bravery and sacrifices of firefighters who often go unrecognized for their contributions
Agni Movie Rating: 3.5 Stars

Watched Agni movie on Prime Video. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Pratik Gandhi, Divyenndu, Jitendra Joshi, Sai Tamhankar, Udit Arora and Saiyami Kher
Director: Rahul Dholakia
Release Date: 6th December 2024 on Prime Video

Story: Movie revolves around Vitthal Surve (Pratik Gandhi) who is the head of the fire department in Parel. He lives with his wife Rukmini (Sai Tamhankar) and Amar (Kabir Shah). He doesn’t get along with his cop brother-in-law Samit Sawant (Divyenndu).

Vitthal feels Sawant glorifies his achievements and is making money on the side. The cop has recently bought a cool new apartment while the firefighter lives in rundown quarters. His son also thinks highly of his uncle. The cop is the real hero in the child’s mind and not his own father. It’s a fact which irks Vitthal the most.

The narrative takes an interesting turn when a sudden rise in fire incidents in the city forces Vithal to collaborate with Samit. While they initially join forces reluctantly, courtesy the command of investigation officer Avni Purohit (Saiyami Kher), their journey uncovers the possibility of an arsonist behind the city fires. As the investigation deepens, Vithal and Samit must confront not only the truth behind the mysterious fires but also their strained familial relationships.

Positives
1. Performances
2. Cinematography
3. Story
4. Climax
5. Direction

Negatives
1. Length
2. Pacing Issue
3. Screenplay in 2nd half

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch on premiere day as it’s based on real life incidents and it’s a first movie on our firefighters. In a city engulfed by a mysterious surge in fires, Vithal, a courageous fireman, and his brother-in-law, Samit, a hotshot policeman, begrudgingly join forces to unravel the escalating crisis. As they battle their own differences and a race against time, they must reconcile personal conflicts to crack the case and protect Mumbai from impending disaster.

We’ve seen cop films aplenty, but this may be the first time that a detailed procedural has come out focusing on firemen. Their bravery, as well as the hardships they face is brought out well. That firefighters are unsung heroes whom citizens never acknowledge, let alone recognize, is a fact that’s at the heart of the film. Serious health hazards are part of their job description, which seems to be no one’s problem except their own families who are forced to make peace with the constant precarity they have to live with. The film does an excellent job of depicting the valor and dedication of the firefighters who risk their lives in the line of duty, often with little recognition. The visual effects, particularly during the fire sequences, are effective and realistic, capturing the intensity and danger of fire-fighting operations. This is poignantly depicted through scenes highlighting the thanklessness of their job and the indifference of higher-ups like politicians to their sacrifices. Despite these hurdles, the firefighters remain unwavering in their commitment. The movie also sheds light on fire safety hazards and citizens’ crucial role in preventing such disasters, making it both an emotional and thought-provoking experience. The narrow lanes of Mumbai, often obstacles for firefighting teams, are portrayed with striking accuracy, adding a layer of authenticity to the narrative. Lead actors & supporting cast delivers impactful performances.

On the downside, the second half into a psychological thriller, which doesn’t gel with the earlier narrative. We get it that the plot involving a pyromaniac is brought in as a shock value but this whole scenario isn’t well-thought. The means used by the culprit to bring to light the plight of the firefighters are contrary to the cause he’s espousing. You are left wondering why the director deviated away from the realistic approach shown earlier and deviated to melodrama. The lack of a proper backstory for Vitthal and Samit’s animosity weakens their dynamic, and the uneven pacing often detracts from a wholesome experience. The twist is unpredictable, but it also raises certain questions as the intention of the villain is not fully convincing. Overall, movie is a very credible and worthy watch that pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of firefighters, who often go unrecognized for their contributions. Despite flaws, it deserves appreciation for its intent and execution. It serves as both an informative and emotional tribute to our fire fighters. While the story and thriller elements could have been stronger, it still burns bright as an emotional and visually compelling experience. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
