Adipurush Review: This modernized version of Ramayan fails to justify the glory of Prabhu Shri Ram
Adiprush Movie Rating: 1.5 Star
Just watched Adipurush movie in Cinemas. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage

Release Date: 16th June 2023 in Cinemas
Story: The movie begins with Lord Rama aka Raghav (Prabhas) getting banished from his kingdom Ayodhya for 14 years at the decree of his father Dasarath (Krishna Kotian). It is Bharat’s mother and Dasarath’s younger wife Kaikeyi who demands that Lord Rama be sent to the forest so that her son be crowned.
Sita, aka Janaki (Kriti Sanon) and Sesh aka Lakshman (Sunny Singh) accompany Lord Rama in exile. One day, while Raghav is roaming in the forest, and he meets Shurpankha (Tejaswini Pandit). She falls for him and proposes marriage. Raghav respectfully declines and informs her that he’s already married. Shurpankha is unable to bear the truth and she harms Janki.
In retaliation, Shesh cuts her nose. She goes back to her kingdom Lanka and complains about it to her brother King Lankesh (Saif Ali Khan). Ravan abducts Sita by diverting Ram and Sesh with a magical deer. Later, Ram meets Hanuman (Devdatte Naga) and the rest of the movie is about how Lord Ram won over Ravan and brought back Sita.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on release day in cinemas as it is based on the life my prabhu Shri Ram.
Movie is based on the chapters of Ramayan which deal with the kidnapping of Janki by Lankesh and Ram fight with younger brother Sesh and Vaanar sena to secure her release.
Adipurush is a screen adaptation of Valmiki’s Ramayana. The screenplay is not half as good as it should’ve been. It is devoid of emotions and light moments. Raut struggles to find a balance and consistency between the epic story and its superhero-verse execution. The dialogue lack the impact that epic heroes of this stature are expected to deliver. The narration feels bland in the first half. It does not evoke the kind of emotional gravity that you would expect from an epic tale like Ramayana. You don’t feel invested in the characters enough. The VFX and visual appeal are passable if not impressive. The 3D feels like an unnecessary accessory. With a run time of 3 hours, you wish the story wasn’t as dependent on the special effects as it should have been on the nature of its revered characters or what set them apart. Despite the dramatic buildup, the climax doesn’t live you with that sense of joy, reward or victory.
Barring Hanuman, the other vanaras look like extras from The Planet Of The Apes. Ravana, according to the canon, had an accumulation of Amrit in his navel, a crucial fact revealed during the end game by Vibhishana. That’s missing here. Mandodari has a miniscule role here, whereas in the epic she’s depicted as Ravana’s conscience keeper. There are so many other things which the director has simply decided to ignore. There are limited positives and main is Jai Shree Ram songs and background music. It adds life to the overall narrative, even lifting sequences that needed better writing and execution. Some camera shots are beautifully picturized, however, the frequent use of wide shots especially in the second half could have been limited. Performances are also good but I loved the limited screen presence of Kriti Sanon as she only looked like Sita.
Ramayana is a much-revered epic and shouldn’t be treated like LOTR. It has much to teach but its themes of sacrifice, brotherhood and love aren’t brought to the forefront here in their full glory. ts biggest let down is the writing and could have done much better if it was was divided in two parts. Overall, this modernized version of Ramayana falls flat and big disappointment. My view on this movie Not Recommended.
