Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer planned to watch this series on premiere day as trailers looks excellent like its previous two parts. The story centers on SSP Samardeep who is an upright yet unconventional cop who takes on rival gangs involved in illegal liquor trade and land grabbing. As the investigation deepens, his past comes back to haunt him when he encounters Kabir, a figure fueled by revenge who shares a connected history with the officer.

Kaptaan is set in western Uttar Pradesh and gets most of the details right, from the dialect to the behavior of its characters. The lawlessness and corruption are shown in a believable way, and the clash between Munna and Shaheen keeps things interesting. Munna’s ruthless land grabbing and Shaheen’s calculating nature stand out. At the center is a no-nonsense cop whose journey is written with clarity. The show does not try too hard to make him look heroic. His strength comes from the risks he takes while dealing with criminals. He is sharp, observant, and practical, which makes him easy to follow. The series gets the setting right, and most actors fit well into their roles. The rivalry between two gangs and their complex web of crime is woven neatly into a story that stays focused on the actions of a strict cop. The fast pace, along with regular twists, makes it easy to binge. The best part is that the storyline has interesting twists on every turn as Samar isn’t just bold, blunt, and honest, but he also deals with his own past traumas, losing his younger brother in a criminal incident where Samar couldn’t save, and he still carries the weight even after 12 years. At first glance, Kaptaan follows a familiar cop drama structure with a brooding lead character and crime-driven plot. However, the layered storytelling and evolving character arcs may help it stand out if the execution successfully balances action, emotion, and narrative depth.

Saqib Saleem brings a steady and controlled presence to Samardeep, showing both authority and the weight of personal loss that stays with him throughout the story. Anjumm Shharma works well as Munna, making the character feel dangerous and hard to predict. Siddharth Nigam delivers a credible performance as Kabir, though his intensity feels slightly uneven at times. Arif Zakaria as Shaheen comes across as calm and calculating, a man who believes in patience and rarely loses his composure. Varun Badola as Sangwan, the local politician, offers solid support and adds depth without overdoing it. Kavita Kaushik, playing the ACP, brings in some lighter moments, though her performance remains fairly basic. The ensemble works well together and gives the series a strong base.

On the flipside, some plot points raise questions and feel poorly thought out. In one scene, SSP Samardeep introduces his secret informer Raghav to Kabir, even though the informer’s identity is meant to stay hidden. Soon after, Kabir kills him, and despite being shown as a sharp and intelligent officer, Samardeep struggles to figure out who is responsible. Moments like this take away from the experience. Still, these issues do not completely derail the show. Interestingly, the main antagonist’s arc wraps up much before the climax, with the final episodes focusing on setting up what lies ahead. Overall, series is a crime thriller that keeps you engaged with its pace and twists and turns. It certainly has its flaws, and some of them are quite obvious, but despite that, it makes for a thrilling watch best enjoyed with popcorn. It remains a fast-paced and engaging series with strong performances. It does not reinvent the cop genre, but it offers enough fresh elements to make it a worthwhile watch. My view on this web-series Timepass.
