Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this web-series, planned to watch this series in premiere day as loved the trailer and also its part of Rohit Shetty Cop-universe.
DCP Kabir Malik and his senior officer Joint CP Vikram Bakshi goes on to investigate a series of bomb blasts in Delhi, with the help of Gujarat ATS Chief Tara Shetty. They find that the culprit is Zarar, an Al-Mujahideen terrorist, and sets out to arrest him.
Indian Police Force may follow a familiar pattern of revenge and the exploration of radicalization, the series compensates with fast-paced developments and revelations. It has its heart in the right place and the intention is undoubtedly good but the lack of energy on-screen waters down the purpose. Wide-angle shots and long camera angles with drones panning the entire scenic location can work wonders. However, anything in excess can throw you out of the picture pretty fast. The sound design, though loud and familiar, works decently for the series. The cinematography is brilliant as it captures bylanes and exotic locations beautifully. The drama through the 7 episodes is of typical Rohit Shetty style and that keeps the show pacy and engaging. The family emotions work nicely. Rohit Shetty is one of the few filmmakers in Indian cinema who managed to represent the police force in the best way possible on celluloid. The directors have tried their best to enhance the mass quotient and even scale of the show. All the locations are depicted in a grand fashion as if this is a big-screen film. They ensure that the viewers are interested and invested in the cat and mouse chase between the cops and the dreaded terrorist spanning several cities. Decent performances from starcast also enchance the impact of this series.
On the flipside, the series doesn’t present anything that we have not seen before in a Rohit Shetty venture. There are no twists and turns or cameo appearances from any character of the cop universe. The action scenes also give a been-there-done-that feeling. Moreover, the principal characters don’t have particularly entertaining characteristics. The web series starts slow and catches your interest only after the third episode. For a cop drama it lacks the thrill that keeps you hooked and at the edge from one episode to the next. The story lacks newness and feels hollow. The writing is unabashedly prejudiced, stereotypical and preachy.
Overall, series is a decent addition to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. This seems to be just the first part of more chapters to come, and we are sure Shetty will only get bigger and better here on. Despite the predictability in the storyline, series is recommended for its novelty in delivering a high-packed action series in the digital space. The half-hourly episode format enhances its appeal, making it a worthy watch for fans of the Cop Universe.
