Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on premiere day as trailer looks interesting and its very much relatable.
Set in Mumbai, three platonic friends navigate through life, relationships and career challenges in this slice-of-life drama that unfolds like a thriller. The trio is in for a rude awakening when they discover the impact of social media obsession on their day-to-day life.
Kho Gaye Hum Kahan story is relatable and relevant for today’s times. It is slice-of-life drama works as a scathing social commentary on the millennial and Gen Z’s existential crisis. It showcases the harsh reality of getting highly attached to social media rather than living in the moment. The film asks us to spend time with our loved ones rather than getting glued to the mobile screens throughout the day. Not just this, but the movie touches upon multiple aspects that are pretty much relatable. The beautiful part is all of these are told in an endearing manner without getting preachy. The message to the society has been given through the lives of three friends. Each of them is battling their own issues, and they are nicely interwoven with the harmful effects of social media. Just when we think the film is going flat, the makers introduce a conflict point between the friends and make the film interesting. The social media angle also gives a nice touch. Arjun touches upon ghosting, the fake life of influencers, difficulties faced by people in staying away from their phones, using social media to get validation and even stalking ex-partners, bullying on social media etc. Some scenes that are well executed are Imaad and Simran’s first meet, Lala’s birthday bash, the epic showdown between Imaad and Neil etc.
On the flipside, the plot feels ambiguous in parts. A lot is left for the audience to imagine. Roomies rarely cook or share bills. While a little more insight into the co-living situation would have helped, the anxiety-inducing, mystery-ridden treatment outshines the story. Each scene leaves you feeling restless and makes you anticipate some sort of disaster. There are portions where the movie feels slightly dragged, barring which it is a very smooth sail from start to finish. The track of Neil in the end will leave the audience divided. The turn of events is difficult to digest and also how he comes out of it is not convincing.
Overall, movie is a gutsy take on imperfect human relationships in the new age of social media. It is neither preachy nor does it leave a bad taste in your mouth. It is an honest attempt to show the real life behind the filters on social media. Movie is highly relevant and an unsettling modern-day horror that dares to give you a reality check. It will make you think twice before posting that irrelevant selfie or stalking that energy-drainer cum timewaster. My view on this movie Recommended.
