WPL Final (Mumbai Indians Women Vs Delhi Capitals Women)
Game Date: 26th March 2023
Details:
Delhi Capitals Women captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bat first in the final game of WPL 2023 against Mumbai Indians Women at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. MIW remain unchanged for this game while DCW included Minnu Mani in the place of Poonam Yadav.

Delhi Capitals Women scored 131/9 runs in their 20 overs after batting first. The last wicket stand has produced 52 from 24 and has given DCW a lifeline. MIW will be disappointed at the end as they allowed Radha Yadav and Shikha Pandey to hit out, even though it must be said it was outstanding shots from the duo. Earlier it was all one-way traffic as MIW set their opponents back. There was controversy as well when Shafali was given out to a marginal high full-toss which she sliced in the air. Issy Wong had an off-night but dented the top-order with three wickets off full-tosses. And then catastrophic running got Meg Lanning at a crucial stage which changed the game. Hayley Matthews took over with three wickets in quick time and from 73/3 DCW slipped to 79-9. When it looked like it was all over for DCW the unlikey pair of Radha and Shikha added vital runs with attacking intent. At least DCW have a score to bowl now, althought MIW are firm favorites still. Skipper Meg Lanning scored 35 runs of 29 balls and Radha Yadav scored 27* runs of 12 balls. For MIW, Hayley Matthews & Issy Wong picks 3 wickets each.

Mumbai Indians Women chased down the target successfully by scoring 134/3 in 19.3 overs and won the game by 7 wickets. A thrilling final!! It had to go down to the final over, but MI performed better in both departments today and will go down as deserved winners. The chase didn’t start too well, as Yastika Bhatia holed out in the second over, and fellow opener Hayley Matthews fell in the powerplay as well. Delhi’s bowlers kept the lines very tight in the first half of the innings, not allowing MI to get ahead. But the experience of Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt was exactly what was needed, as they soaked the early pressure but kept their wickets intact. Chasing a small target, they could take their time and in the second half, Harman dished out some calculated attacks. However, she was run out once again in a crucial game, but this time it didn’t come back to haunt them. Nat Sciver-Brunt carried on from her eliminator knock’s form, as she scored a crucial fifty, and Melie Kerr‘s late cameo in the penultimate over where she attacked Jonassen sealed the game. Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 60* runs of 55 balls and Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur score 37 runs of 39 balls. For DCW, Radha Yadav & Jess Jonassen picks 1 wicket each.
