Lost Review: Few interesting moments and excellent performances made this thriller a one-time watch despite shortcomings
Lost Movie Rating: 2 Stars
Just watched Lost movie on Zee5 Premium. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.
Cast: Yami Gautam, Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Khanna, Neil Bhoopalam, Pia Bajpiee and Tushar Pandey
Director: Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury
Release Date: 16th February 2023 on Zee5 Premium
Story: Set in Kolkata, movie revolves around Ishan (Tushar Pandey), a Dalit theatre artist is untraceable by police who are determined to pass it off as a case of Maoist radicalization. Dismissing his family’s stance that Ishan was never interested in politics, they in turn interrogate his sister and brother-in-law about his connections with Bhisam Rana (Kaushik Sen) who is a Mao extremist leader.
Moved by the family’s anguish at having no leads on Ishan’s sudden disappearance and piqued by the fact that the police refrains from questioning his girlfriend, Ankita (Pia Bajpayee) even though Ishan was last seen with her.
Vidhi (Yami Gautam) is a city-based crime reporter, takes it upon herself to see this story to the end. While there has been mild interest in the media on the case owing to a powerful politician, Ranjan Varman’s (Rahul Khanna) connection with Ankita, most seem to have bought into the story peddled by the police. What happen next is all about this movie.
Positives
1. Performances
2. Story
3. Cinematography
Negatives
1. Music
2. Length
3. Screenplay
4. Direction
5. Climax
Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on premiere day because loved the trailer and was inspired by true events.
Lost charts the story of a young woman crime reporter who is working on a story of sudden disappearance of a young theatre activist. The layered story aims to represent the idea of lost values and integrity.
Story of this film is fairly good, engaging and poignant. But there are numerous places where you’re feeling bored with the long takes. It builds up the story for a fitting finale, but at the climax, he just leaves you hanging without giving a properly entertaining finale. The climax is more artsy than commercial, while the rest of the story builds you up for a gripping finale. The writing a bit too stretched which makes some portions seem a bit too boring. Screenplay moves on a single track so appears too stretched and slow-paced also.
On the positive side, the makers touched upon some of the important issues of society, such as untouchability and discrimination. Also, the film does talk about vendetta politics and violent propaganda that a few political parties run for their own good. These are very sensitive topics, and the attempt is very much appreciable. Performances are very good from the cast. Overall, movie begins with a great hope but sadly, the climax doesn’t deliver on it. It’s one of those films where you’re hyped till the very end expecting a spectacle of a climax, but when that doesn’t happen, you’re doled out with a slap of reality on your face. The film does drag a bit and becomes boring in parts. Keeping aside its shortcomings, performances and first half makes this a one-time watch. My view on this movie Time Pass
