India beat South Africa in 2nd Mastercard ODI-cricketmovie.com

Mastercard ODI Series 2022: Career best knocks from Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer helps India draw level in the series against South Africa. They won the 2nd ODI by 7 wickets at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. Now I will share the details of this game in my own way.

2nd ODI (India Vs South Africa)
Game Date: 9th October 2022
Details:
South Africa stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to field first in the 2nd ODI game against Team India at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi. Shahbaz Ahmed is debuting for Team India. Washington Sunday is also playing today in the place of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi.

South Africa scored 278/7 runs in 40 overs after batting first. Excellent comeback from India in the final 10 overs. SA were well on course for a 300-plus score when Markram and Hendricks were batting. The pair looked to be batting on another surface, tackling the bowlers efficiently with a nice mix of caution and aggression. However, once that big partnership was broken, India started to claw their way back into the game. Markram to fell soon and only 41 runs came off the final 48 deliveries. India’s bowlers all used the slower balls well, hitting the deck with that pace-off, and the older ball looked almost unhittable in the death overs. SA will be disappointed at not getting another 15-20 runs at least, but in totality, this looks a very competitive score. The surface isn’t the easiest, particularly against the older ball, and only dew can even up that factor. Dhawan said he expected dew, so let’s see how that pans out. Aiden Markram scored 79 runs of 89 balls and Reeza Hendricks scored 74 runs of 76 balls. For Team India, Mohammed Siraj picks 3 wickets for 38 runs in his 10 overs quota.

Team India chased down the target successful by scoring 282/3 in 45.5 overs and won the game by 7 wickets. As clinical as it gets from India’s second-string brigade. An effort the A-listers would be proud of. Now, 278 wasn’t intimidating but on a pitch where the older ball looked tough to score off, it certainly was a challenge. More so against this youngish Indian batting line-up. The task at hand compounded when senior pro Dhawan and a fluent looking Gill departed inside the first powerplay. Given how things panned out last game, SA were surely sniffing blood at this stage but that’s when the match winning partnership between Kishan and Iyer came to India’s rescue. Both were fluent from the get-go and being excellent players of spin meant that they were able to thwart whatever challenges the visitors threw at them. Kishan capitalized fully on his favorable matchups, destroying the left-arm spin duo and later on, also took the pacers apart as well. Iyer was his usual calm self, and this mayhem allowed him to pace his innings well. Kishan was unfortunate to miss out on a century, but by the time he fell, the result was all but decided. Samson gave Iyer company for the remaining formalities, and the latter eventually got to a deserving ton. SA will be disappointed with this loss, they would have wanted another 15-20 runs perhaps, but it’s also true that dew did make the chase a tad easier for the Indians. Shreyas Iyer scored 113* of 111 balls and Ishan Kishan scored 93 runs of 84 balls. For South Africa, Bjorn Fortuin, Parnell & Rabada picks 1 wicket each.

SA: 278/7 in 50 overs
IND: 282/3 in 45.5 overs

Match Result: India won by 7 wickets
Man of the Match: Shreyas Iyer
