Just watched Shamshera movie on Amazon Prime Video. Let’s focus on the complete details, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Bose Roy and Saurabh Shukla
Director: Karan Malhotra
Release Date: 22nd July in cinemas & Digital debut on Prime Video from 19th August 2022

Story: Shamshera (Ranbir Kapoor) is the leader of Khameran, a warrior tribe uprooted from his soil with his people, is forced to plunder the wealth of the rich who consider themselves a higher caste. They were deceitfully imprisoned and enslaved in the fort of Kaza by the treacherous Shuddh Singh (Sanjay Dutt). Their rebellious leader, Shamshera tried to escape the fort to earn the price of his tribe’s freedom but was unsuccessful and get killed.

Twenty-five years later, Shamshera’s son Balli (Ranbir Kapoor) grows up to be a brave young man who has been wonderfully tutored in all skills by Peer Baba (Ronit Bose Roy), his late father’s friend. He blissfully unaware of his past had grown up aspiring to be a police officer. He was the leader of a gang of kids and teaching them to steal petty things he collected to gift his lover Sona (Vaani Kapoor). Balli and Sona shared an innocent, platonic relationship. One fateful day Balli was punished mercilessly by Shuddh Singh for wanting to be an officer. Finally, his distraught mother revealed the secret of their dark past. An agitated Balli rebelled and escaped the fort.

Balli then began the adventurous journey to the outside world, where many of his father’s old confidant Doodh Singh (Saurabh Shukla) and others awaited the arrival of the next Shamshera. With the help of them and Sona, they started looting the arrogant upper caste of Kaza to accumulate the price of their tribe’s freedom. As matters worsen, the British government assigned an officer, Freddy Young (Craig McGinlay) to deal with the case. Freddy was a fierce and loyal officer yet a compassionate man. As he digs deeper into the history of the Khameran tribe, he realises the actual cause of their fight.

In the meantime, Balli and the gang continue to accumulate the gold required for their freedom. But things did not go as planned. Lost and distraught, only one option remains with Balli. He must prove his worth to be the true Shamshera who can win the freedom of his people back. Will he able to save his tribe?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on premiere day because of star-cast and fictional story about freedom.

In the fictitious city of Kaza, a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian Shudh Singh. Shamshera is a legend for his tribe who relentlessly fights for his tribe’s freedom and dignity.

Shamshera story is clichéd and outdated. Screenplay is long-drawn, boring and one of complete convenience. On top of that, several developments are difficult to digest. Emotions are conspicuous by their absence in spite of it being a human drama. Direction is also below average as he unable to make up for the terribly weak script. n the positive side, he has handled the scale and grandeur very well. A few scenes, especially in the first half, work very well and give audiences some sort of paisa vasool experience. But in the second half, the film falls drastically. One can guess from a mile away what’s going to happen next, whether it’s the rebels facing a tough time or Balli stealing the queen’s crown. The sequence where the rebels are struggling is stretched.

Lastly, the usage of crows is novel. But how and why are the birds helping and what is their association with the tribe should have been explained. Without the explanation, it seems only laughable. The way the rebels decide to disband is not entirely convincing. The highly-awaited one-take shot of the train gets over in no time. It’s not executed as well as expected, as it seems like looting a crown is child’s play. The ending is outdated and seen before numerous times, something that the audiences will be able to predict.

Overall, hardly there is anything which makes this movie tolerable. It falters big time due to an outdated script and predictable plot. My decision to not watch this film was very good as movie does not deserved to be watched in cinemas. Still if you are Ranbir Kapoor fan can watch him in completely different avatar. My view on this movie Not Recommended
