Story: It is official remake of Tamil film Kolamaavu Kokila. Set in Punjab, Jaya Kumari aka Jerry (Janhvi Kapoor) lives with her sister Chhaya Kumari aka Cherry (Samta Sudiksha) and her mother Sharbati (Mita Vashisht). They are originally from Bihar where Jerry’s father died some time ago in a road accident. Sharbati earns her living by preparing dumplings. Jerry works in a massage parlour, much against the wishes of her mother though she has assured her mother that she doesn’t do anything that she should be ashamed of.

when her mother is diagnosed with second-stage lung cancer, Jerry has to raise Rs 25 lakhs for the treatment. In a bizarre turn of events, she ends up fooling the cops and retrieving a packet of cocaine for a local drug supplier Timmy (Jaswant Singh Dalal). The mobster is gob smacked takes a shine to her and hires her as a hustler when she asks him for work. She is given the job of picking up the drugs from Timmy’s restaurant and then delivering them to a man named Malik (Saurabh Sachdeva).

After a certain event Jerry wants to leave this work but the price of her freedom is pegged at peddling 100 kilos of cocaine as asked by the drug lord Daler (Sushant Singh). She’s innocent but not naive and knows that she needs to outplay the gang to stay and keep her family alive. If she does manage that, she will need to evade the police. Can she dodge both parties?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View: When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on premiere day because trailer looks amazing ad backed by top production house.

A simple and timid girl from a lower middle-class family in Punjab, Jerry turns into a cocaine peddler to make money for her mother’s cancer treatment. Things go haywire when she wants to quit but her family is also unintentionally lured into the business. It becomes a fight for survival, as Jerry must outplay the cops and the thugs.

Dark comedies can always be tricky, as there is just a thin line between being funny and being bizarre. But Good Luck Jerry manages to successfully strike the right balance in the screenplay as there is a consistent presence of gags all through the narrative. While the comic portions majorly work, the emotional and dramatic moments don’t fit in the world of this film. At times, the intention and action of certain characters is not justified well. The drama has its share of light moments, it doesn’t evoke much laughter because the humor is laced with a tinge of fear. Secondly, since the storyline is thin and scenes start getting repetitive, robbing the drama of the humor quotient.

There have been several films where the protagonist takes up the path of crime for the sake of the family. But here, the protagonist happens to be female. Moreover, her family angle gives a nice touch to the overall proceedings. The impact in several scenes gets enhanced thanks to the one-liners. Direction is good but the pace of a thriller is missing. Towards the end, the film gets monotonous and convoluted with scenes that do not take the story ahead. The longish sequence where Jerry is mistaken to be getting assaulted was jarring and seemed forced to crank up the hilarity.

Overall, movie is a hilarious and entertaining fare that would have been perfect if it were a tad shorter. It is an entertaining ride despite some hiccups in the narrative. It’s a film made for the OTT and this section of the audience should embrace the dark comedy space with open arms. Janhvi Kapoor and Deepak Dobriyal shine and make this a breezy weekend watch on the TV. My view on this movie Recommended.
