Story: This film is inspired by the true event of the Jet Airways Doha to Kochi flight 9W 555, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft that had a narrow escape on 18 August 2015, after facing difficulties to land at the Cochin International Airport due to bad weather and unclear visibility at 5:45 in the morning and had to be diverted to Trivandrum International Airport.
Captain Vikrant Khanna (Ajay Devgn) is a pilot working for Skyline airlines and lives with his wife Samaira (Aakanksha Singh) and daughter. On August 16, 2015, he is in Dubai and the next day, he is supposed to fly to Cochin, where he’s also based. He had a party with his friend in nightclub of Dubai where he drinks a lot but reached to airport on the time. His co-pilot Tanya Albuquerque (Rakul Preet Singh) admires her a lot.
Just before landing at Cochin airport, they realize that the weather and visibility in Cochin are so poor that it would be impossible to make a safe landing there. The Air Traffic Control at Cochin advise them to instead land at Trivandrum, where the weather is better. By then, the weather of Trivandrum also deteriorates. For some reason, the Air Traffic Control team at Cochin doesn’t inform Vikrant and Tanya to not head to Trivandrum.
With no other option, Air Traffic Control staff advises them to land on Runway 16 but Vikrant insists on landing at Runway 34 which is a risky move according to them. Nevertheless, Vikrant sticks to his plan and with great difficulty, lands on Runway 34 successfully. Due to his tough decisions but he is answerable to the AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau).
Narayan Vedant (Amitabh Bachchan) of AAIB appointed to drill Vikrant and Tanya. Skyline airlines owner Nishant Suri (Boman Irani) ask her lawyer Radhika Roy (Angira Dhar) to defend on their behalf. What is the outcome of Captain Khanna’s decisions on board the aircraft, and what is the jury’s decision on his decisions?

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on digital premiere because of Ajay Devgn and story looks appealing. But now I am also thinking that I should watched this movie in the cinemas.
Runway 34 tells the turbulent tale of Captain Vikrant Khanna, a flying prodigy whose flight takes a stirring and mysterious trajectory after take-off from an international destination. Consequently, it follows the tenacious Narayan Vedant, in his pursuit to uncover the truth.
Story of this film is not only interesting and engaging, it is also pretty exciting. However, the excitement reduces once the courtroom drama begins but stills keep you engaged for the outcome. Screenplay is tight in the first half when it concentrates on the drama inside the aircraft in the midst of inclement weather. The fear of the passengers and the anguish of the cabin crew keep the audiences on the edge of their seats as they become a part of the tension-ridden in-flight drama. However, once the scene shifts to the courtroom, the tension reduces where it could have been better. However, once the scene shifts to the courtroom, the tension reduces, which is a drawback of the two writers. For any courtroom drama to succeed big time, it is very necessary that the viewers have high points in the courtroom to applaud. However, in the courtroom drama in the film, the audience does not find too many claptraps or points to applaud.
The climax is not half as exhilarating as it ought to have been. No doubt, the confrontation scenes are entertaining but the entertainment comes more from the dialogues than the scenes. Overall, the screenplay is replete with technical terminology due to which it becomes very class-appealing. Therefore, there is little in the drama for the masses and family audiences. Ajay Devgn direction is excellent in the pre-interval portion but his narration also loses grip post-interval that could have been tighter. Perhaps, a drama with flashbacks would’ve kept the audience more interested as they would have probably been in a dilemma about whether they should be on Captain Khanna’s side or Narayan Vedant’s.
Overall, movie should be experienced for the way it depicts one of the scariest, and a near-disastrous aviation mishap in recent times with engaging characters, thrill and drama. Also film doesn’t spend too much time taxiing on the runway; it takes off quickly and keeps you hooked till you disembark from the theatre’s aisles. Must watch film for everyone and still I am not able to understand why audiences does not love this film. My view on this movie Highly Recommended
