Story: Set in 12th century, Prithviraj Chauhan (Akshay Kumar) is the king of Ajmer who is known for for his bravery and kindness. One day, Mir Hussein (Anshuman Singh) arrives at his doorstep and asks for his help. He is the brother of Mohammed Ghori (Manav Vij), the ruthless king of Ghazni.

Mir Hussein fell in love with Chitralekha (Radha Bhatt), the mistress of Mohammed Ghori and eloped with her. Now Ghori want to kill his brother so Mir Hussein seeks help. Prithviraj Chauhan decides to help him, even if that means facing Mohammed Ghori on the battlefield. The war takes place at Tarain where Prithviraj Chauhan emerges victorious. Mohammed Ghori is caught but Prithviraj Chauhan sets him free.

Meanwhile Prithviraj Chauhan falls in love with Sanyogita (Manushi Chhillar), the princess of Kannauj. She too falls for him though both have never met each other. However, they write letters and send gifts to each other and that’s where love happens. Sanyogita’s father, Jaichand (Ashutosh Rana) is jealous of Prithviraj Chauhan because he feels he’s the rightful heir to the throne of Delhi but was not elected.

Jaichand then organizes a yagna and Sanyogita’s swayamvar. The invitation is given to all the kings but not to Prithviraj Chauhan. Yet, Prithviraj Chauhan arrives at Kannauj and he elopes with Sanyogita. A humiliated Jaichand decides to seek revenge. He sends an invitation to Mohammed Ghori and asks him to help him defeat Prithviraj Chauhan. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on release day for one of the greatest Indian warrior Prithviraj Chauhan.

Based on Prithviraj Raso, the film tells the story of the Rajput warrior and king Prithviraj Chauhan of Chauhan dynasty, who clashes with Muhammad Ghori, a ruler from the Ghurid dynasty who led the Islamic Conquest of Hindustan.

A film based on the great life of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan needed a screenplay that celebrated his journey, pride and valour, but the filmmaker choses to go the subtle way with little heroics added to the brave king of India. Instead of introducing the audience to the characters, the film fast forwards from one sequence to the other in the first half, without focusing much on drama and build up.

The film starts off well with a fight sequence between Samrat Prithviraj and a lion, but the narrative dips post that only to pick up during the interval point. The war sequence too doesn’t have the kind of build up that we have seen in several period films before. As the film proceeds to the second half, Dwivedi tries to create the drama using romantic tracks of Samrat Prithviraj and Sanyogita, but again, the core conflict in the film isn’t effectively presented. It’s only towards the last 20 minutes when Samrat Prithviraj leaves a mark as the entire climax sequence is well conceptualized, with the much-needed thrill in the story telling pattern.

The impact of all the drama and conflict in Samrat Prithviraj would have been a lot better had the director focused on establishing the protagonist and antagonist in a better way. The fire is missing in the conflict and hence, the impact of action and drama is diluted. Talking of technical aspects, the background score is effective, but the music isn’t up to the mark. While most period films have hummable music, this one doesn’t boast of a single song that stands out. The visual effects are fine, but special credit to the set designer, who brings in grandeur to the cinematography. The dialogues are decent but could have been a lot better.

It doesn’t have the opulence that we have seen in other historical dramas, but there is enough to keep you invested and also take you back into the pages of our glorious history. Overall, movie is strictly an average affair, with a rather flat screenplay. The historical is primarily watchable due to three strong sequences The opening act, the intermission block, and the finale. While the three key actors deliver an earnest performance and the director has mounted the film well, the narrative surely demanded a lot more drama, and at-least a war sequence in the second half. The brave Indian warrior deserved a better film. My view on this movie Recommended
