Story: Set in the city of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Series is revolved around Chandel family. Supriya Chandel(Ayesha Raza Mishra) is a mother of 3 grown-up kids staying away from her and her husband (Vivek Mushran) died during COVID time. Like for everyone the lockdown brought in a lot of pain and misery due to loss of livelihood and loved ones, for Chandels too, it was heartbreaking as they lost the head of the family. However, due to the COVID rules, none of the 3 kids turn up for their father’s funeral and Supriya is left alone to arrange everything at her advancing age.

Ramni (Plabita Borthakur) is the middle child who works in a Bank in Bangalore while the elder brother Rajan (Shiv Panditt) runs a business of bath fittings. The youngest brother Raman (Vivaan Shah) is an activist who likes to take up social causes. Supriya is still struggling to manage her day-to-day responsibilities after her husband died of covid. She gets help from kind neighbours and a kirana store owner, Trilok aka Loki (Suneel Sinha) and his daughter Dipanita (Niharika Lyra Dutt).

But on the inside, she is lonely and even upset with her children because they did not come to attend their father’s last rites. Supriya has spent her entire life reliant on her husband, but she is now attempting to carve out her own path by launching Sutliyan, a handmade macrame business. When all three siblings come home ahead of Diwali to make it up to their mum and spend time with her, we notice how all of them are tied to each other by a loose thread of love that may break if not cared for any longer.

Each of the kids is guilt-ridden, aware that they were not there for their mother in the wake of a family tragedy. When all of them meet Supriya, she is changed. She is stronger and is going through life with the hope of making it better. While Rajan and Raman don’t seem to find their mom’s behaviour different, Ramni vows to find out what has changed in her.

Seeing him be extra helpful to their mother, Ramni feels uncomfortable and decides to get to the bottom of it and that is where her old friend Sameer (Nikhil Nagpal) enters. He is a typical smitten, friend-zoned guy who is in love with Ramni. But, she has her own reasons for not having feelings for him and soon, we’re introduced to TJ (Inayat Sood), her friend from Bangalore who travels to Bhopal to spend time with her.

As we go along, Rajan and his wife Amita (Disha Arora) relationship is also put into the limelight. The couple is seen quarrelling, again hinting at knots in their bond. In all this, Rajan is yet to disclose to his mother that his business has taken a hit and that he is bankrupt. Facing pressure from the creditors, he decides to sell the land, which his late father bought for all the 3 kids. Raman, who is the youngest of them all, also is shown as having a complicated relationship with Dipanita who is married to a man she doesn’t love. How family comes together despite all the issues on Diwali is all about this series.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I have watched the trailer of this series planned to watch in free time as trailer has good feels and has family values that cannot be ignored.

The story starts with three siblings, two brothers, and one sister, returning to their familial house in Bhopal, where their mother resides, for the Diwali holidays. It has been a year since their father passed away. None of the children could be present for their father’s funeral due to COVID restrictions. COVID has played the role of the major rabble-rouser for the predicaments, and thus conflicts, of the family. Expectedly. Similarly expectedly, a family reunion always becomes the major brewing pot of conflicts.

Sutliyan story tries not to rely on the conflicts so much, and majorly focuses on the familial bond and the slightly reluctant love shared between the family members. There are certain individual struggles set for each of the characters, nothing absolutely out of the ordinary. It tries to create moments rather than plot twists in overcoming the conflicts. However it does reach for one at the climax, but that is acceptable. There are certain jarring and unnatural ends of episodes, where the audience would certainly notice the lack of seamless transition between each episode. It would make one wonder whether the story was at first made for a film and not a series.

All of the characters feel real and one can immediately relate to them and their backstories Overall It is a sincere attempt to convey the importance of families while dealing with real-life events and the nuances of family relationships. This heart-warming family reunion is well worth your time Despite all its flaws, series is an immensely watchable web series especially if you are familiar with the Indian familial intricacies. My View on this web-series Highly Recommended.
