Rudra Review: Ajay Devgn impressive digital debut is highlight of this slow paced and predictable crime drama

Just watched Rudra:The Edge Of Darkness web series on Disney Plus Hotstar. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.

Story: This series is official adaption of British series Luther which stars Idris Elba in the lead and in India version superstar Ajay Devgn in the lead roles. Even as every episode has a story of its own revolving around an extremely intelligent and psychologically-charged criminal. It also gradually unravels layers of Rudra’s life which forms a key part of the overarching story for the current season.
DCP Rudraveer Singh (Ajay Devgn) is reinstated in service after sitting on the bench for seven months. His suspension is temporarily revoked. An officer of the Special Crimes Unit lead by Deepali Handa (Ashwini Kalsekar) as he is addressed in most parts of the show, is known to be one of the most competent hands in the department.
In the 1st episode titled Genius Ki Aukaat, Alia Choksi (Raashi Khanna) into Rudra’s life. She’s a child prodigy, considered a genius in space research and a suspect in a double-murder case. Although Rudra fails to adequately prove her involvement to the world at large but he proves it to her sparking off an unlikely friendship. In this case Rudra is assisted by a new hire Prabal Thakur (Tarun Gahlot) who reveres him.
In the 2nd episode titled 100 Killer, a maniac goes on a rampage against Mumbai Police killing uniformed cops. The Only thing Rudra can do to get him is to make himself the killer’s target. Will he succeed?
In the 3rd episode titled Bali Ka Bakra, Rudra gets a revisit of a previous case when a cult leader suspected of murder becomes actives after ten years, Kidnapping and killing women to drain their blood. How he plan to catch the killer is about this episode
In the 4th episode titled Weak Spot, A Serial killer is on the loose, killing young women and leaving behind a peculiar crime scene. Meanwhile, Rudra Past catches up as his wife Shaila (Esha Deol Takhtani) is now moved with his boyfriend. How he investigate and solve the issue is all about this episode.
Episode 5th Zabaan Ka Paaka and Tod Fod are connected to each other. When the wife of a wealthy businessman is taken hostage and Rudra tries to solve this case, he got to know his friend and colleague Gautam (Atul Kulkarni) is also involve in this illegal kidnapping that shakes the ground beneath his feet.
Gautam goes to Shaila house and ask her to call Rudra to her home but she denied and during their discussion Gautam killed Shaila and frame Rudra for his wife murder. He is on the run while chasing the real murderer. As he becomes the target of entire police, how Prabhal and Aliyah help him is all about this episode.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I have watched the trailer of this series planned to watch in free time as trailer looks good and also its a digital debut of Ajay Devgn who is one of biggest superstar of our country.
Series is an adaptation of the British show Luther and revolves around a fearless cop Rudraveer’s attempts at fighting criminals while dealing with his personal demons. Set in the Special Crimes Unit of the Mumbai Police, the show is a procedural psychological crime thriller revolving around DCP who is under the system’s radar despite being one of its best minds at work. He has his own way of functioning, which brings in the element of thrill in the narrative.
Rudra The Edge of Darkness definitely has its moments but we have seen such crime thriller in multiple other series as well but Its Ajay Devgn whose presence makes this film as special watch because his acting is as always mind blowing. The makers have not meddled with the original show in order to create a version for the homegrown consumer. But what could have helped is a shorter runtime per episode and probably newer cases which weren’t part of the original show. It would have made the overall run less predictable.My View on this web-series Recommended only if you are fan of Ajay Devgn.
