420 IPC Movie Rating: 3 Stars

Finally watched 420 IPC movie on Zee5 Premium. So let’s focus on the cast, release date story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Rohan Vinod Mehra, Arif Zakaria and Gul Panag
Director: Manish Gupta
Release Date: 17th December 2021 in Zee5 Premium

Story: The film opens at the MMRDA office where Bansi Keswani (Vinay Pathak) is visiting his client, Deputy Director, Sandesh Bhonsale (Mahesh Pillai) to discuss ITR filing for him and his family. Bansi chartered accountant whose clientele also includes a top bureaucrat and a veteran builder. He lives with his wife Pooja (Gul Panag) and son Amit (Shush Kalra).

Soon after he returns home, Pooja apprises him of the bank’s eviction notice for failing to pay the last few EMIs of the home loan. Even as they’re trying to figure out a way out of this crisis, CBI officers come knocking on his door. After a thorough search of his house, they ask him to accompany them to their office. That’s where Bansi learns about Bhonsale’s arrest for siphoning off Rs 1200 crore in the Airoli Flyover Scam. He let off since they don’t find anything incriminating him. Relieved, Bansi goes about his work as usual.

But within days, one afternoon, the Police arrest him from his office for stealing cheques from his builder client Neeraj Sinha (Arif Zakaria), and also charge him of forgery and bank fraud. Even though circumstantial evidence stacks against him, Bansi maintains he’s innocent and it’s up to his lawyer Birbal Choudhary (Rohan Mehra) to bail him out despite strong opposition from Public Prosecutor Sewak Jamshedji (Ranvir Shorey).

Positives
1. Excellent Performances
2. Direction
3. Story

Negatives
1. Climax
2. Screenplay

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie because it is based on real life incident and trailer looks impressive with great star-cast.

Bansi Keswani is a chartered accountant whose clientele also includes a top bureaucrat and a veteran builder. While the going is tough for him and his family, comprising his wife Pooja and son Amit. Things take an ugly turn when he’s arrested for theft, forgery and bank fraud. To fight his case, he hires lawyer Birbal Chaudhary who discovers that there is more to it than meets the eye.

420 IPC has tried to curate a gritty sensationalized courtroom drama revolving around IPC’s Section 420 that deals with cheating and dishonesty when it comes to property. The viewers will definitely be engaged with the chain of events that unfold after the protagonist’s arrest in the forgery case. However, the movie falters to showcase a sharp screenplay. There is no sense of establishment or interplay between the lead characters that results in one not being able to relate or empathize with them. Be it Bansi’s relationship with his family, Jamshedji’s no-nonsense persona, Birbal’s struggles to prove his client innocent or Pooja’s mysterious side, none of these aspects of the characters is explored meticulously. Overall it’s good one time watch due to great performances and short length. My view on this movie Recommended.
