Rashmi Rocket Review: A inspiring and engaging sports drama that deals with important issue of women athletes
Rashmi Rocket Movie Rating: 3 Stars

Just watched Rashmi Rocket movie on Zee5 Premium. So let’s focus on the cast, release date story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Abhishek Banerjee, Priyanshu Painyuli, Mantra, Varun Vadola, Shweta Tripathi Sharma and Supriya Pathak
Director: Akarsh Khurana
Release Date: 15th October 2021 on Zee5 Premium

Story: It is based on a real-life story and incidents and is about a fast sprinter Rashmi Vira (Taapsee Pannu) from Bhuj. She’s a great runner but quit running and become tour guide after she lost her father Ramnik (Manoj Joshi) in the 2001 earthquake while participating in the race. Her mother Bhanuben (Supriya Pathak) then brought her up and also began to fight for the rights of the women in her village.

After few years she meets Captain Gagan Thakur (Priyanshu Painyuli) by army doctor, Dr. Ejaz Qureshi (Akash Khurana) who ask her to guide them in Bhuj as they are newly appointed there. While touring with Gagan and his colleagues, she runs like a rocket and saves the life of a soldier who was about to step on a landmine. Gagan encourages her to get into running. But she refused but after pressure from her mother she agree to participate.

She won multiple state level championship and selected to participate for the India by Indian Athletics Association. The initial days are difficult for Rashmi as even though she is a gifted runner, she is poor when it comes to certain basic rules and techniques of the sport. Under the head coach Tejas Mukherjee (Mantra) and she manages to get better at the game. Some of the fellow runners despise her especially Niharika (Miloni Jhonsa) and Priyanka (Namita Dubey). They call her a ‘man’ as they believe that she has masculine qualities.

In the Asian Games 2014, Rashmi won 3 gold medals for the country. The same day when she returns a female official (Lisha Bajaj) from the Association asks her to come along for some procedure in the government hospital. The reports of the tests proves that Rashmi has an unusually high level of testosterone. Hence the Association bans her. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Positives
1. Excellent Performances
2. Cinematography
3. Story
4. Climax
5. Screenplay

Negatives
1. Lengthy
2. Direction
3. Music
4. 2nd half

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie on the first day of release due to movie content and performances.

The story revolves around a female athlete whose glory is hindered when she is asked to undergo a gender test. It follows the tale of young girl who finally gets the chance to realize her dream and compete professionally, only to realize that the race to the finish line is peppered with many hurdles.

Story of this film is interesting, engaging and inspiring. The interest level remains intact right through the film even though there are some low points in the screenplay, especially in the second half. The subject tackled in the film is new and a bit difficult to apprehend for the audiences. But the writers have tried their best to ensure that the proceedings are easily comprehensible. However, the second half oscillates between the court and non-court scenes but its not engaging as first half. Still movie has enough content which makes this film enjoyable with great social message. My view on this movie Highly Recommended.
