Director: Sarthak Dasgupta
Release Date: 20th August 2021 on Zee5 Premium
Story: Film is based on true story. In August 2004, around 200 Dalit women in Nagpur had lynched a gangster in a courtroom for reportedly raping and abusing several women of their colony for over a decade without receiving any punishment.
The film opens with the defining act of defiance by the downtrodden and defiled as 200 women armed with knives and chilli powder and with their faces covered with their scarves and dupattas, barge into a district court and lynch an undertrial gangster Balli Chaudhary (Sahil Khattar). The policemen who protected the criminal for a decade are caught unawares.
Senior police inspector (Upendra Limaye) arrest five women from the Raahi Nagar colony as suspects in the murder including the elderly Tara (Sushama Deshpande). The commission’s progress is slow and is matched by the incompetence of human rights lawyer Umesh in obtaining bail for the women. Umesh (Barun Sobti) happens to be an old flame of Asha (Rinku Rajguru) an activist from the slum.
On the other hand women rights commission head (Flora Saini) leads to the formation of a fact-finding commission headed by retired Dalit judge Dangle (Amol Palekar) to investigate this case and collect the proofs. Five women acquitted and sentence life time imprisonment. Umesh and Asha appeal in the high court but before the session begins Umesh got killed. What happens next is all about the movie.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch in my free time as film is based on real story and my decision to watch this film was excellent because movie is must watch.
Film is inspired from true story compelling narrative chronicling the oppression and injustice suffered by Dalit women and the circumstances which led them to take a drastic step. Set in the context of atrocities against women, the film captures an incident where 200 women took law and justice into their own hands and lynched a gangster, robber, serial killer, serial rapist, in open court.
The entire narrative of the film is based on a moral dilemma that the movie often presents to the viewer, vigilantism versus the legal system. Powerful storytelling, cinematography and performances are the real strengths of this film. It is in no way offering a solution to the problems it highlights, it is simply telling a story. The film makes you weep, gasp in horror, and later keeps you thinking and rethinking about the world we live in and that is where its real victory lies. My view on this movie Highly Recommended !!
