Jagame Thandhiram Review: Lengthy story and poor execution fails to do justice to noble subject of this film
Jagame Thandhiram Movie Rating: 2 stars

Just watched Jagame Thandhiram movie on Netflix. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this movie.

Cast: Dhanush, James Cosmo, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiyarasan, Joju George and Deepak Paramesh
Director: Karthik Subbaraj
Release Date: 18th June 2021 (On Netflix)

Story: Story opens in London where a key member of a local gang headed by a man named Peter (James Cosmo) is killed by member of a rival gang headed by Sivadoss (Joju George) an immigrant from Sri Lanka who is gradually strengthening his grip over the city. On the other hand Suruli (Dhanush) who is a young restaurateur and local gangster in Madurai and finds himself in trouble after he commits a murder. In order to straighten up the ruckus created, his chief asks him to go out of sight for a month.

Amidst all this, two men from London visit Suruli seeking his help to track Sivadoss. Post reaching London, Suruli meets his new boss for the next 3 weeks Peter who believes that his country has lost its legacy solely owing to the invasion of immigrants. In the process of chasing down Sivadoss’ gang members, Suruli befriends a few by chance, all thanks to his culinary skills. Later, on his visit to a club, he meets Attila (Aishwarya Lekshmi) a singer who he proposes on their first meeting.

Things take a turn after Sivadoss and his gang is shot down by Peter’s men with the help of Suruli. Post days of fight and action between the two gangs Suruli learns an unfortunate reality of immigrants, who have been struggling for zillion years but are deprived of identity. Meanwhile Attila also tried to kill Suruli but he survives and got to know reality of Sivadoss.

What is reality of Sivadoss and what is his connection with Attila. What happen when Suruli know the reality. Will he turn against his boss Peter to fight for the immigrants who have no home of their own? To know the answers you need to watch this film.

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the Hindi trailer of this film it looks interesting and planned to watch this film in my free time.

The film tells the story of Suruli, a reckless gangster from Madurai who has to choose between good and evil in a war for what one can truly call home. Film never takes itself seriously, but it wants to discuss some pressing problems, like the state of immigrants, particularly the Sri Lankan Tamils who’re fighting to be accepted in Britain. This is a noble idea, but what’s the point of having a great idea when a film can’t keep you invested for most of its running time.

Movie story could have been much more interesting if the runtime was reduced and if it wasn’t cramped with messages about racism, refugee status, capitalism, xenophobia and white supremacy. It is purely meant for thrill-seekers and comedy aficionados. With a strong subject about immigrants in hand, Karthik Subbaraj could have done much better with his screenplay. The predictable story and poor execution have undoubtedly let down the film, which otherwise would have struck gold considering the massive cast and the much hype. My view on this movie (Not Recommended) but still you can watch only if you are big Dhanush fan.
