Criminal Justice 2 Web Series Review: Engrossing courtroom drama is good in parts due to excessive length
Criminal Justice 2 Web Series Review: 2.5 stars
Just watched Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors Web Series on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP. So let’s analyze the cast, release date, story, positive/negatives and at last my personal view on this web series.
Cast: Pankaj Tripathi, Anupria Goenka, Kirti Kulhari, Deepti Naval, Mita Vashisht, Ashish Vidyarthi, Jisshu Sengupta, Shilpa Shukla
Director: Rohan Sippy and Arjun Mukherjee
Release Date: 24th Dec 2020 (On Disney Plus Hotstar VIP)
Duration: 8 Episodes/ 45 Minutes
Story: This series is sequel of Criminal Justice which was released in 2019 and now it is back with 2nd with season with new story and retained some of characters from season 1.
Anuradha Chandra (Kirti Kulhari) who is under trial for the murder of her husband and top lawyer Vikram Chandra (Jisshu Sengupta). On the surface, they are a happy couple with a beautiful young daughter Rhea (Mishti Sinha) and is is pretty much a legal luminary in Mumbai. That’s one of the reasons why nobody will touch the case with a ten-foot pole, the other being that it’s seemingly an open-and-shut case.
Police Inspector (Pankaj Saraswat) handed this case to advocate Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Mishra) and he’s eager enough to leave for the city on the night of his marriage. In his first meeting with client Anu he finds out she’s unwilling to talk and even accept her crime in first appearance. He then takes the help of Nikhat (Anupriya Goenka) is black-listed by Mandira Mathur (Mita Vashisht) who is co-incidentally close to Vikram and his mother Vijji Chandra (Deepti Naval).
Now courtroom trail starts with a clear outcome but a wholly unclear motive and it’s up to Mishra to unearth this motive with no help of his uncooperative client. How Madhav and Nikhat find the truth and why Anu killed his husband is all about this series. The story is spread over ten months, and while the larger overtone of the show is that of innate seriousness, Madhav and his wife Ratna’s (Khushboo Atre) banter does provide ample comic relief in this series.
Positives
1. Pankaj Tripathi and supporting cast with excellent performance
2. Story
3. Climax
Negatives
1. Direction
2. Uninteresting sub-plots
3. Excessive Length
4. Screenplay
Durgesh Tiwary’s View : Wtached the first season of Criminal justice and liked and trailer of 2nd season was also gripping and my fav Pankaj Tripathi is there so planned to watched this series on release day.
Series start with fascinating note and at the end of first episode victim was stabbed by his wife and now police and advocate need to find out motive behind his heinous crime. Next two episodes will keep you hooked to know the reason of this murder. But after that it will bore you due to unnecessary sub-plots which was not required at all in this series but again climax will blow your mind after knowing the motive.
In an attempt to make it twisty and engaging, the director made it draggy and very lengthy execution. Had she not introduced so many sub-plots, characters and stuck to a main track, and wrapped up the series in 4 sharp episodes, this review would have been way different. Overall series is watchable because of it’s refreshing story, performance and climax episode. My view on this web-series is Time pass.
