Director: Kabir Khan
Release Date: 24th December 2021 in Cinemas

Story: Movie is based on the story of India’s first Cricket World Cup victory in 1983. Captain Kapil Dev (Ranveer Singh) has a daunting task in his hands when he lands in England with his team and manager, P.R. Man Singh (Pankaj Tripathi). Neither the other teams in contention nor the world media considers the Indian team worthy enough to even reach the finals, leave alone winning the World Cup.

India began badly by losing all its three practice matches. Then, it surprisingly won their first group match against the mighty West Indies, their first ever defeat in all three editions of the world cup. Then, after winning their match against Zimbabwe, they lost heavily to Australia and lost their return leg match against West Indies as well. They had to win their next match against Zimbabwe.

They were trailing at 9 runs for four wickets when captain Kapil Dev came out to bat. He went on to make an unbeaten 175 runs and helped India put up a total of 266/8. His score is still the highest knock by a captain in a World Cup. It’s sad that the BBC decided not to telecast the match and hence no video recording of Kapil’s mammoth innings exists.

India won the crucial semi-final against England comfortably by six wickets, with Mohinder Amarnath (Saqib Saleem) contributing a fine performance by both bat and ball. India put up a low score of 183 runs in the final against the West Indies. Till then, they hadn’t won a limited overs match at the Lords stadium and were expected to lose. However, India put up a fine bowling performance, with both Madan Lal (Hardy Sandhu) and Amarnath taking three wickets each. They bowled out the opposition for just 140 runs and won an emphatic victory for the country.

1. Excellent Performances
2. Direction
3. Screenplay
4. Cinematography
5. Climax
6. Music

Negatives
1. Stretched 1st Half
2. English Commentary

Durgesh Tiwary’s View : When I watched the trailer of this film planned to watch this movie in cinemas as I am big fan of Marvel superheroes. This time all three spider man are coming together to fight with enemies.

83 movie story based on the 1983 World Cup, and it has excitement, thrill, patriotism, drama, melodrama, comedy, camaraderie, sportsmanship and lots more. Like the 1983 World Cup Cricket was, the story of the film is also full of excitement and thrill. The screenplay is extraordinary. It holds the audience’s interest from the start till the end, never letting the grip go off for even a single moment. The game of cricket itself comes with a lot of thrill and fun. There are scores of scenes in which the chest of the viewer swells with pride. Since the spirit of patriotism in such a drama is akin to emotions, the screenplay is replete with emotions for the motherland. The light moments are extremely enjoyable and evoke laughter at many places.

Of course, the thrill which the viewers experience in the climax is absolutely crazy. The audience will shout, scream, whistle, clap and cry watching the Indian team romp home victorious. The film must not have been easy to shoot and edit but the final product he has delivered is a masterpiece in the true sense of the term. He has adopted a narrative style which makes the drama extremely entertaining. Some of the intercuts he uses between the game of cricket are master strokes.

On the whole, 83 is a blockbuster of epic proportions. Cricket lovers will, of course, go ga ga over the film, but even those who are not fans of cricket will adore the film for the entertainment it offers. Some films are made to write history. 83 is one such film! It will be remembered for years to come. My view on this movie Must Watch and must watch for all Marvel and Spider man fans.
